These are empty threats to steer these trade talks. I doubt it actually happens if he gets traded somewhere besides Miami. A lot of PTSD from AD on here.

Without a doubt, but the empty threats is what I’m talking about. Empty threat or not, that gets others attention.

Sixers don’t have much in the way of assets.

NBA picks owned

They owe protected picks to the Thunder and the Nets which tie up their picks until 2030.

If they clear up their protections / swap issues with OKC and Brooklyn (and possibly Phoenix), they can move a few picks.

didn't realize the Sixers were in that situation.

he whole point of the supermax was so that the small market team could keep the superstar by being able to offer him more than anyone else could. If you let them force their way out to the team of their liking a year after signing it, then what was the point? There should simply be a longer time period where they cannot be traded. Supermax should be not until after 4 years, the 4 year regular max should be not until after 3 years. maybe make a stipulation where the only way you can trade them before those dates is if its for another max player, like the Wall/Westbrook trade.

Could also do a reverse trade kicker.

If the player requests a trade then he gives up 15% of the contract, and that amount goes to the team that’s trading him.

An easier solution is to just eliminate max salaries. Sueprstars are underpaid, will get way more than the current max, and then won't be able to be traded.

I don’t remember exactly why vets got slotted that way. Probably the CBA right after Michael Jordan made more than the rest of the Bulls combined IIRC.

They went to rookie scale contracts for a reason, though. Glenn Robinson holding the Bucks up for a huge contract at #1 overall pissed off the owners. I’m sure the whole Chris Webber deal a few years earlier where Webber forced his way out of the Warriors after a year because of a clause in how they originally signed him didn’t help matters either.

This will never happen because then players 3-15 on the roster wouldn’t make shite because teams would be signing Lebron and Steph type players to 120 million a year.

Then float that in CBA talks and let the player association brawl over it.

It means no one has put down money yet.

See if there is a “field” option.

I’d love to see this, but at a higher percentage, like 25-30% of salary the player loses out on. And it goes towards cap savings towards the team that’s getting screwed over.

Players have all the power right now, this woukd really make them think about requesting a trade.

Then Dame would do all the same stuff he's done recently but just though the media, no direct talks with Portland or other teams. And he'd never have officially requested a trade or mare any demands.

Then he wouldn’t get traded. The gm just needs to have a press conference with the media and say his agent needs to formally request a trade, otherwise he’s staying on the team. Once he’s traded, gets hit with the 25% penalty.

Yup, you do all this and then announce that you have deemed his conduct as detrimental to the team and have suspended him without pay until further notice.

Plenty of ways to do it.

If they would've waited until after this season he could've signed a max contract with them, but because the did it via extension he was maxed out at the contract that he signed.

I forgot they were limited to only 140%.

This will be big when Herb is due for his next extension, the most he can get in that first year would be 21.8 million (would average out to around a 4/93 deal), so his next deal could be a bargain also if he keeps his trajectory of improving every year.

Then why aren't they not doing the same thing currently? It would be no different.

Earlier in SL broadcast they brought Chris Haynes on to keep pushing the Zion trade talk. Haynes said he’s gotten the sense Zion can be had for the right package.

Well no shite, Giannis and Luka could be had for the right package. Any player in the NBA would be traded if you came with enough assets.

Rob Pelinka just mentioned on ESPN that the Lakers have had talks with Anthony Davis about going back to the two-big model they used with Dwight Howard/JaVale McGee. Pelinka said it was a big reason why Jaxson Hayes was signed

Ok, this made me

Lakers SERIOUSLY think Hayes is the guy to play the 5 for them in starting lineups next to AD

Philadelphia 76ers restricted free agent F Paul Reed Jr., has signed a three-year, $23M offer sheet with the Utah Jazz, his agent Ron Shade of Octagon Basketball tells ESPN. Sixers have until Sunday at 11:59 PM ET to match sheet and retain Reed.
quote:

One of the terms of the offer sheet provides a unique twist: The first season of the contract is fully guaranteed and the two following become guaranteed for $15.7 million if Reed’s team advances to conference semi-finals in the 2023-24 season, sources said.
quote:

If Sixers match the sheet, they will exceed the $165M luxury tax threshold and incur an additional $14M in luxury tax penalties. Reed would have veto power on a trade for a year if he remains with Sixers.

Yeah, Philly ain’t matching that.
