This has been every offseason the past 2 seasons to be fair. One trade and/or free agency signing in the last like 400+ days.

Sitting pat when your biggest accomplishment in those two years is a loss in the first round is wild.

griff has gotten too comfortable and Gayle doesn’t seem to care

It's not because we don't have a solid roster though.

We can make all the realistic deals we could, if Zion and BI combine for less than half a season, we aren't winning a playoff series.

At some point this franchise needs to accept that these guys aren’t going to give them a full season. They’re too optimistic.

I was hoping Gayle would spend into the luxury tax, but I don’t think that’s happening. Looks like we’re gonna try to trade for a rim protecting center then fill out the rest of our roster with min contracts.

Do we still have the full mid level extension?

Yes, but we won't use it due to being up against the tax unfortunately.

I feel like they did. Why else even seriously consider the Zion for Scoot trade. Unfortunately, Griff couldn’t make that happen and now we’ll be a more expensive and probably less talented team next year (assuming they trade Jonas).

I dont blame Gayle here. As an owner, you would only go into the tax where you feel like the team is close to a title. They literally couldn’t make the playoffs last year.

I agree here. Im no sure if Gayle is overly passionate about either of her sports franchises. I mean lets be honest Tom bought this team for 300 million and is now worth somewhere near a billion. She probably makes a killing from this team, regardless how they perform.

She’s about to make 300 million plus off the expansion teams next year too

I don't understand spending more money, unless it's going to generate more money. Going to the playoffs, raising ticket prices, more tv exposure so higher ad revenue.. all those are possible with a more successful team. It would make sense to go over if that is a realistic goal/outcome. Otherwise I'd be staying way under..

Spurs supposedly rumored to be involved as third team in Dame trade to Miami.

Well Ayton gets paid $35M a year and Landale arguably outplayed him in the playoffs

I think the only indefensible contract the rockets handed out was 4 yr 80 mill to Brooks.

1-2 year deal at $20M per would’ve been an overpay but much more defensible.

Makes sense from a cap perspective as SA can eat shite contracts for picks.

Less so with regards to actual assets going back to Portland. SAS isn’t going to get paid enough to give up any real pieces of their rebuild, though they could send out McBuckets and Devonte Graham as less shitty contracts than Duncan Robinson.

I think Fertita is impatient and wanting to jump start their rebuild.

Doing stupid shite like this is how you kill your rebuild in its tracks, as that contract is likely an albatross in 2 seasons.

Yeah 3 year, w 3rd yr Team option would’ve been my cut off if I was convinced I wanted Brooks.

3 years at least lines up w Green and Sengun’s future contracts. That’s part of the reason why I think the Vanfleet overpay was not actually a bad thing on the whole. It’s defensible from a few standpoints.

This Brooks deal is frickin absurd lol. And he’s not even a good guy either. If you are going to overpay someone. At least let it not be a shithead. The only thing Brooks does positively is defend. Everything else on and off the court is negative and now his contract is also a huge negative.

It doesn't. So we could use it. It does count for the tax line, though. Everyone is operating on the understanding that Gayle does not want the team to be a tax team at the beginning of the season.

If we're in the top 3 teams in the West at the trade deadline, maybe she would agree to a trade that puts us over the tax, but it doesn't make sense to pay tax unless we're a contender, and we haven't yet demonstrated that we are.

Have no idea what Houston’s plan is. Now they have signed Jeff Green. Guess they tired of the youth movement already.
