Like who and where?

Almost all of them were cut and played for multiple teams during the year..

On the first day that LeBron was eligible to sign an extension, he and Rich Paul had a "productive" conversation with Rob Pelinka and Darvin Ham.

But there's still no deal.

quote:

Paul told ESPN he expects both sides to continue a dialogue moving forward.

The article speculates that LeBron might want a one-year extension with a player option on a second year, to leave him flexibility to possibly play with Bronny.

He needs to extend by at least one year to justify the Lakers trading any picks.

If he isn’t willing to do that, Lakers may as well recoup what they can.

USAtoday report

The Lakers, Knicks & Jazz reportedly had conversations on a potential 3-team trade:

Jazz:
Russell Westbrook (Bought out)
Draft picks from NY & LA

Knicks:
Donovan Mitchell

Lakers:
Patrick Beverley
Jordan Clarkson
Bojan Bogdanovic OR Malik Beasley

I’d have to see how much the Jazz get back in picks to judge this.

The Knicks get what they want and the Lakers get a major shot in the arm of talent but the Lakers would probably have to throw in swaps on top of the 27 and 29 picks.

Edit - Tried this in trade machine, will not work as constructed.

Knicks aren’t sending out enough money (ANY in fact) and have to send out around 25-35m to absorb a $30m contract.

Jazz can’t aggregate PBev or Beasley into any trade until enough time has passed from the Gobert trade OR it is a non-simultaneous trade.

The Lakers just seem like they're stuck. They have to give up quite a lot of value to make any move forward. How can you give up 2 unprotected picks for just a solid return that maybe makes you close to your Bubblechip year. We know that the mid season hiatus and weirdness of the Bubble are the main reasons they won. Does that team even make it past the 1st round if they have to deal with a full regular season grind leading up to the playoffs? And if that's the case, are you mortgaging the rest of your future just to become a playoff also ran?

That's the issue that I've always had with it. Even if they get their ideal trade of Westbrook for Irving, are they a top 4 favorite to win the title? I don't think so, they'd still severely lack the defense required to make a long playoff run. So, are they really going to mortgage the rest of their future for a second round exit? Doesn't seem very smart to me.

its hilarious when you see Laker idiots make up trade ideas.

lets have the Lakers get 3 nice veterans, and who gives a shite about worrying if salaries match at all.

The Knicks can't take in $30M in salary and send out nothing, and they sure as hell aren't getting Mitchell by just sending out draft picks, if you assume they are just going to throw them worthless salary like Fournier

They have fricked their future so hard it isn’t funny… to them.

As of now, they look to be a shitshow going into this season unless they can move Westbrick. If nothing happens, they likely finish in the lottery and swap picks with us since we should make the playoffs.

If they do a straight dump of Westbrook, they likely compete this year for a play-in level spot at the expense of whatever assets they dropped to move him.

If they lay out two unprotected firsts, they potentially get enough talent to be mid-level playoff team but are kicking the can down the road minus a LeBron extension.

There are no good plays for them and the Westbrook trade combined with letting Caruso walk did it to them.

I’d pile on about the AD trade but they don’t even get a bubblechip without him given the problems there after they failed to get AD in mid season the year before. Lonzo, BI, Hart, and others were done with LeBron when he tried to move them while keeping his Klutch cronies.

I find it all very satisfying.

Yesterday Eddie Johnson was going on and on about how great a GM LEbron is b/c he made it to 8 straight finals. He doesn't buy the excuse he made it b/c he's great, nor did he care that the teams he left fall apart b/c of the terrible contracts they are left with.

This Lakers team could have had a starting lineup of Lebron/AD/DeRozan/Caruso/Hield, but GM Lebron like Lebron/AD/Westbrook/Monk/Bradley

The way I figure it, our Lakers' pick next year will end up getting us the Winnebago guy from France. Then, we can have the top TWO defensive players in the NBA. Pretty much a done deal.

LeBron the player is/was great.

LeBron the GM is a fricking putz who blows his team’s entire sets of assets then moves on like a parasite, blaming the team for not getting him what he needs to win.

That few players have ever played next to LeBron and come off better for it is part of the issue. He needs his style of play to thrive and anyone brought in is a complementary piece to do that rather than bringing their own skills to the table.

A lot of guys don’t want to spend their prime earning years taking less than normal to play next to a guy that will cause them to get no credit for wins but take blame for losses.

Possible but unlikely IMHO.

Pressure would be on from various places to play Westbrick or trade him rather than sit him.

The Rockets et all have gotten away with it with John Wall and so forth for a variety of reasons. Harder to pull that off with the Lakers, especially given how public this whole clusterfrick has been.

The league will want names playing. LeBron will want Westbrook flipped for assets. Jeannie Buss will balk at paying a guy $47m plus luxury tax to sit at home.

None of that goes together well.

"Pretty much a done deal."

young man, your affirmation is a blessing.
don't get Knicks WFAN syndrome where you are disappointed when reality bites.

I see is using the swap barring a major disaster for us.

Whatever we get is free money IMHO because, frankly, we are on the upswing and we should likely be picking in the 20s for the next few years.

Do I think we are getting Wematanye? Not necessarily. Would be nice, but I just look at it as getting probably a 5-10 spot bump in draft order, if not more.

All we need to do is keep hitting singles and doubles to keep the rotation cheap. I'm not even sure we need a full, All Star level CJ replacement long term. As BI and Zion grow into more dominant players that don't need Mr. McCollum to tell them to wreck shite, you just need guys like Trey and Dyson to live up to their potential.

its a lot to ask.
is Daniels able to play now?
I've seen guesswork that Daniels won't be in the playoff rotation. did his injury set him back from intended preparation in summer league. I'm seeing where he starts in the minor league team but gets practice time with the A team too.

The moment Daniels walks on the court for the Pels...he will be the 2nd best defensive player we have. THAT...is why he will most likely be in the rotation...come playoff time.
