I wish the Spurs could catch the Lakers for the Play-in but I don't think they will.
Still great night for us. Need to beat the Grizz.

Home play-in game against the Lakers is going to be so much fun, though.
The SKC will be packed, and the game will have a little extra juice with the fact that a win for us gets us the Lakers pick.

I don't know. I could totally see the Lakers shutting down Lebron. I know he wants that scoring title but if his knee is bothering him...
Also, I expect to hear at some point that Davis is done for the year.
I think there's a very good chance the Lakers are going to completely free fall.

At least 50% will be westbank lakers trash in Kobe jerseys. I find that annoying.

If they lose their next 3-4 I could see that being the case. SAS is totally inconsistent though and 3.5 games is a lot to make up.
The good thing is they play each other a few more times I think.

This is absolute best case scenario for us
Plus all the stuff in the background with Rusty
A perfect storm is brewing for us

I think they are going to need to lose at least the next 4 for that to happen, and for Lebron's knee to be a real issue.
They are going to want to be in at least the play-in.

Makes it a good opportunity to shame and humiliate those folks, though.

I don't know. Logically, you'd think that, but egos are involved too.
Lebron is a moron, but I think he has just a little bit of sense to know that this team is toast and will just get embarrassed in the playoffs.
Lebron hates getting dissed. He can save face by being "injured" and let Westbrook take all the heat.
I can't imagine anyone associated with the Lakers can still think they have a legit show of anything other than humiliation on national tv.

I wouldn't bank on beating the Lakers in the Play In, especially if Anthony Davis is back by then. LeBron is like that country song "I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I've ever been." He'll bring it for the playoffs and if he has enough help he'll be a tough out.

Yeah I agree here. I would not want to play an angry Lebron with AD back in a 1 game series. The Lakers would lose in the first round, but a 1 game play in? I really would not want to play them.
Best case scenario is they just fold and we play the Spurs.

I hear what you're saying. Getting it at home will be a very big deal. I know Lebron will probably turn it on, but I'm not really convinced anyone else (including AD) has that "playoff-gear" to shift into. One game play-in, Anthony Davis in town, team on a roll? Yeah, give me that atmosphere and I'll take my chances.

griff should call pelinka and offer to trade the 2022 pick + kira lewis back to them in exchange for their 2026 pick protected 5-30, unprotected after that.
they can then shut down lebron and tank properly to improve the pick, thus ensuring that the pels make the play-in, and removing the pretty demoralizing chance that AD/lebron eliminate the pels in the play-in.
pels roster is set now for next year and the following. they will struggle to get minutes for murphy as it is. trading lewis with the pick opens up a roster spot that they will most likely want to fill with another vet. the lakers 2026 pick would be a much more useful asset.

You seriously telling me you would prefer to avoid the Lakers out of fear that we might lose to them? I honestly think all things being equal, we match up better with the Lakers than we do the Spurs anyway. Win or lose, give me that big game atmosphere!

1) If the Lakers aren't even in the play-in, chances are much much higher that we get their pick
2) Yes, I would rather not play the 2nd greatest player of all time in a 1 game elimination tournament. Especially if he has a top 15 player with him back from injury, in an arena that will be half filled with his "fans".
3) We match up kinda poorly with the Spurs and they have our number, but they are the worse team. Give me the worse team even if the matchup isn't great.

Plus the fact that if they miss the play in, we're more than likely getting their pick.

Which would you choose?
A 95% of keeping a top 10 pick and playing the Spurs in the Play In
OR
An 80% chance of keeping a top 10 pick if you beat the Lakers in the Play In, but a 30%-50% chance of keeping a top 10 pick if you lost to the Lakers.
Give me the boring match up and the top 10 pick that will help this team much more in future years than the warm fuzzy feeling of maybe beating the Lakers.

Yeah, I don't GAF about playing the Lakers.
I want them to lose out. Lose every game, Shut it down. I want that top 10 pick.

I'd honestly be more worried about losing to the Spurs in the Play In than the Lakers, but losing to the Spurs doesn't cost us a top 10 pick.
Posted on 3/8/22 at 9:52 am to TigerinATL
Yeah. The Spurs seem to have our number, but as long as we have the top 10 pick I'm good.
Losing to the Lakers in the playin and then not getting either pick would be the most Pelicans thing that can happen.
