My top 5:
The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
The Band
ELO
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
The top 2 will always be The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, in that order. However I think bands 3-5 will always be some amalgamation of The Who, Zeppelin, The Kinks and Pink Floyd.

Their songwriting and sound put them in my top 5 favorite bands, with Steely Dan, Talking Heads, Khruangbin, and My Bloody Valentine.
Beatles would top the Best list, but not really sure who else I'd put in there with them.

I was most into music as a teen and in my 20s so "favorites" are basically a look back because I've never again taken the time to focus on new or other older bands as intensely as I did back then. Nowadays with access to so much I graze amongst the decades from the 1950s to now.
