These four would definitely be in my top 5;
Built to Spill
Modest Mouse
The Beatles
Bob Dylan
Five would be close between Pixies, The National, The Kinks, Animal Collective, The Smiths and maybe a few others.
As far as the best, not really sure what to say there. Music is way too subject to have a definitive, objective best list. So if it is the best in my opinion, I guess it is the same as the list above. Not like I them the most because they are on my music fantasy team or something. It is because I like their music the best.

I agree with 3 of the 4 but I could also argue against all of them. If you are a music lover it's an impossible task to name just 5. It becomes a stream of consciousness exercise that would change next time I make the list. So......
