Why do so many people hate DMB?

I can understand not liking the style. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea.

However, when you ask most people why they hate DMB, they say "because they fricking suck." I just think that's asinine... a line that everyone repeats because it's the popular thing to do. Every member of the band is incredibly talented. Hell, Carter Beauford is one of the greatest living drummers. Thoughts?

It's music for white women who have never been fricked properly.
They're just kind of lame and boring. There's not much blood or balls in the music. I'm not a huge Dead fan -- to be blunt, I actively hated them up until a few years ago -- but they have some excellent songs in their catalog. DMB couldn't come up with a song like "Box of Rain" even with detailed instructions.

Yeah, maybe if you're talking about "Crash Into Me," which is admittedly a terrible song. Doesn't sounds like you're very familiar with the entire catalog though.

He's alright, just kind of boring and played out from my high school days. A friend once bought tickets to see him play 3 nights at the Gorge and said he played the same set 3 nights in a row

Ever try to hum or whistle a DMB tune? Damn near impossible, it is.

I don't hate DMB. I got kinda sick of them by college. All the frat boys talking about "Dave" like he's their BFF.

I don't mind the band so much these days. One of the first CD's I remember buying was Under the Table and Dreaming at K-Mart. I still think it's a great album.

Why would I do a deep dive into the catalog of a guy who I think is kind of lame? I saw him twice at JazzFest and was kind of bored both times. Once, I was with a group of people and we decided to leave a little early. He brought out Lenny Kravitz and Paul Simon to do "Ants Marching" as an encore and we were "Ehh, let's still keep going."
And why do you give a frick what people think anyhow? You like DMB, that's great. Listen to him 24/7. Me thinking he kind of sucks should have zero impact on your enjoyment of his music. I don't expect people to like what I like as much as I like it. And I could care less what some random swinging dick on the Internet thinks about my taste.

The DMB "All Along The Watchtower" is the single worst cover I have ever heard in my life.

So there's that.

I asked myself the opposite question when I saw a few folks lining up outside a midnight record store opening in 1993. I was there to purchase R.E.M.'s Monster, and Under the Table and Dreaming was released the same night.

I like some DMB songs.

I think they get hate because they were THE granola jam band for college kids in the late 90's. They got overrated, caught backlash and a lot of the reaction is about perception.

Like I said, I'm not a big fan, but I like some of their songs.

I don't dislike the band......I dislike their fans. "I'm going to see Daaaaave."

Chill the frick out, Timothy. Hearing other people's opinions on random subjects is literally the point of anonymous internet forums. You know, like the anonymous internet forum that we're currently interacting on.

I created the topic because I'm genuinely curious as to the hatred. I don't listen to DMB that much, but I used to, and am therefore familiar enough with their stuff to at least appreciate the musicianship. I feel like a lot of their stuff is more complex than given credit for.

As to your last three sentences, I didn't say any of those things. Your opinion doesn't influence how I feel about them. I don't expect you to have the same tastes as me. And I'm glad you claim to not care what I think about your musical tastes... but you sound awfully triggered right now.

Hell, it took awhile for me to figure out who DMB is,

They bore me, seriously, although they have some good nusicianship. They are perilously close to a full out jam

band.
