Surprised no mention of Selena. I know very little about her music. In fact i only know her cuz of the JLo movie. But apparently she was one of the biggest stars in pop before her death, and she was only in her early 20s.

Just to be an a-hole. Surprised some asshat hasn’t brought up Kurt Cobain either.

Why? He could have went onto make really interesting music. His late interviews suggest a desire to get away from the formula they were using and experiment with more sounds. He was a talented song writer with a ton of great influences and could have made some cool stuff.

but his total catalogue takes up 225 CD's.

Does it really? By my rough calculations -- assuming an 80 minute disc -- that's 12 days and 12 hours of music. That seems a bit much.

It's tough to argue that it isn't Mozart, but these artists come to mind for me:

Amy Winehouse
Bradley Nowell
Ronny Van Zant
Christopher Wallace (aka Biggie Smalls)
Aaliyah

ETA: wth is up with the winehouse hate in this thread?

Definitely not most talented musician by any means.
But to go against the grain of this board and post a Hip Hop artist in here. I would definitely add Mr. Biggie Smalls himself. I liked Pac, but he was too much of a hothead, always into something. Big on the other hand just focused on the music more. Long term if they both survived Big definitely would have had the better career.

Without question.

And I actually disagree with your first sentence. I think Biggie is the most talented rap lyricist who ever lived. It really bothers me that he died so young. On the other hand, I rarely give much thought to what Tupac would have done.

I would say Tupac was pretty focused on music. He supposedly spent tons of time in the studio which is why he has so much music even though his career was pretty short.

Schubert. Dead at 31. I believed if he had lived even 20 more years he would have outpassed even Mozart and Beethoven in musical achievement. A musical genius without parallel IMHO.

Best guitar slinger that ever played with LS, his vocals weren’t no joke either.
