I will go with Otis Redding.
The man faced challenges growing up in the south in the era that he did that entertainers today couldn't comprehend.
Upon the time of his very early death, he had made himself a beloved singer/performer and successful businessman in other ventures. Otis Redding was as naturally talented as one could hope to be.

Schubert. Dead at 31. I believed if he had lived even 20 more years he would have outpassed even Mozart and Beethoven in musical achievement. A musical genius without parallel IMHO.

Richie Valens died at 17. He is the definition of "died too young".

I think if Jeff Buckley would not have died he would have been a music icon.
Some of the other musicians mentioned were young but produced a decent amount of music when they died. Buckley just had "Grace" which he hit out of the park. Can be argued on of the best debut Albums of All Time.
20 years later and his music still holds up.

Gram Parsons may not be the "most talented"...but he is on the short list with all that he influenced.

John Bonham did things with drums that you felt in your whole existence at the same time. I don't think there was ever a rock drummer that was more important to his band musically, besides Neil Peart anyway. His style added so much to the music, and fit in rather than being just great drumming over rock music.

I'd like to thank everyone for not mentioning Amy Winehouse. I hate when I see those collages on Facebook of great musicians that died too young asking "If you can only see one, who would it be?" and they throw Amy Winehouse in there with many mentioned on this topic as if she's fricking worthy.
Just after I posted this I notice someone posted the exact same shite I'm talking about under the topic titled, "Which would you bring back for one final concert?" And of course the bitch is on there.

Whitney Houston probably deserves a mention, as does Prince. I'm a classic rock guy so I'm pulled toward Bonham and Hendrix. Will certainly miss Bowie.

He seemed to be on a permanent decline musically imo. And he was never leaving Yoko.
