Agree. Never liked them outside of a song or two. MtV played "Gloria" and "I Will Follow" enough to make me realize The Edge was not a good guitar player.

And going by The Edge when you aren't a good guitar player is more pretentious than Bono's bullshite.

And yet he has one of the most recognizable sounds when he plays. His delays, tones, power chords to create his space or atmosphere is uniquely his. Similarly, I think Tom Morello catches a lot of flack. People who don't think he's a good guitarist fail to recognize his unique sound. Sometimes I can accept that creative approach over someone like Joe Bonamassa. Technically, Joe is superb but IMO too clean and vanilla.

Dave Sharp of The Alarm experimented in The Edge's sound and they got labeled a poor man's U2. That's unique. Is The Edge a Jack White? No, but to say he's not a good guitar, I'm not buying it.

U2 is / was a great band. I think people just got sick of Bono in the early to mid 00's.

This, IMHO.

Boy
October
War
Unforgettable Fire
Joshua Tree
Rattle and Hum

These were classics for me coming up.

I remember when the Napster generation got their panties all in a wad when iTunes put that new U2 Album for FREE in their library. "How dare you! If we want something for free we'll steal it!!"

Boy/October/War. Yes, I liked them. After that, it was like totally different sound and song writing. That is where my "I don't like U2." came from. I still listen to Gloria a lot. That anyone who likes their first 3 can also like The Joshua Tree, is weird to me.

The weird thing for me is while I want to say I agree with you... I never want to listen to old U2 (no real reason/still like it), but I still don't mind hearing songs from Joshua Tree... and I have heard them so many times over I should be numb to them.. lol

I have no problem admitting I liked them then and now. Are you allegedly a fig if you admit you like u2?

Loved "The Unforgettable Fire" album. All of it. Lost interest after that.

Their first 5 albums were all great. After that they slowly started to suck.

My best friend in grade school loved that band. He also liked metal, industrial, punk etc..

I fricking hated U2. He would always play that rattle and hum or Joshua tree album and I couldn't wait for it to be over.

We'd steal roaches from his older brothers and I would argue if he tried putting that shitvon while trying to get a buzz.

They had a couple good albums, but not a high hit rate for me. Bono is an arse. The Edge is super influential as a guitarist for his creative use of effects and is simultaneously overrated and under-credited as a result. They were never even close to a top 20 favorite band to me, and I have zero interest in seeing U2 live unless the tickets were free.

Joe Bonamassa is equal parts boring and a-hole.

I like them. I don't get the trendy thing of hating groups that were hugely popular at one point. It's not really a flex. Yes, Bono is a douche.
