Lars Ulrich.
He’s not gonna do all the crazy complicated shite 2000’s metal drummers did but he does everything the music demands from him. Half of the shite-talking about his drumming stems from the Napster thing. People just redirect their disdain towards his drumming.

This. And 90% of the ones talking shite couldn't play a whole song off of Puppets or Justice.
Then in the Load days, songs like The Outlaw Torn he laid back and played brilliantly.

Stewart Copeland is (rightly) regarded as one of the greatest drummers of all time. Not sure he counts.
I feel like he's underrated any time he's not one of the first two or three names to come out of someone's mouth when the topic is greatest drummers.
Rolling Stone has him 10th. That's underrating him, imo.

Prince- Dave Grohl has said more than once that Prince was a better drummer than he is.

Clem is a very enthusiastic drummer.

Meh - drums was clearly Prince's weakest traditional instrument - and Dave is just being modest and self-effacing - Dave is one of the best drummers of the past 30 years not named Danny Carey.
Don't get me wrong - Prince could play drums, but not at an elite level. He was a virtuoso at guitar, keys and, really, bass.

Excuse me? Since when did playing 4/4 time make you one of the best drummers of the past 30 years?
Come on man, I don't even keep up with music much any more and can name 29 guys who are much more talented than Dave. BTW, I love Dave. Super talented guy, but he is a student of music and knows he's not a great drummer.

I can't get inside Grohl's head, but he sounded as serious as a heart attack when he told Howard Stern that on his show.
If you get a minute, google "Dave Grohl talking about jamming with Prince". He sounds like a giddy school girl when he recounts the experience, and I'm not making fun of him. Anybody that played with Prince will tell you they didn't belong on the same stage with him. Even legends.
