He Stopped Loving Her Today isn't even the best Jones song. The Grand Tour, a Good Year For the Roses, She Thinks I Still Care, plus several others all beat out HSLHT in my opinion.

I believe in you…Don Williams

Hands down best tear jerking country song ever and it ain't close...
Conway Twitty "That's My Job"
If you have a Daddy or are a Daddy and that song doesn't make you tear up you laughed when they shot Old Yeller....

El Paso- Marty Robbins
That man wasn't just a singer, he was a storyteller with his songs. "El Paso" is one of my favorites by him.
If you haven't already seen it, look up Merle Haggard impersonating country stars. He does Marty, George Jones, Johnny Cash and a couple others and he's pretty much spot on.

the frick outta here with that nonsense.
Solid thread so far with the exception of that geauxt post.
Haven’t made it through the thread yet- but has Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes? been mentioned yet.
It isn’t the GOAT but should be on the list of best CW songs for sure.

Not a huge Toby Keith fan (RIP) but that last one he made is solid as they come.

Will not argue about anyone's #1 country song, because its such a personal thing. However, 9 freaking pages before Conway Twitty was mention is a travesty.
As far as the OP, "He Stopped Loving Her Today" is arguably the greatest. But there were some all timers mentioned in this thread.
I submit to you another Conway song that hits you in the feels and is expertly performed....
