I know you are a Floyd fan in our area. Have you been to see "Interstellar Echoes"? They are a local tribute band that plays around Atlanta. I have seen them a bunch of times and they do a great show.

Finished high school in the late 70s. Some of the best acts/bands were active then: The Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Allman Brothers, Skynyrd, Floyd, etc. I loved them all, but never had an obsession until:
Berry, Buck, Mills, Stipe

That feeling when a band seemingly cuts loose, everyone practically plays like they're solo'ing at once, and everything feels like it should be chaos, but it works. It all feels like this wild, crazy, fun connection between the musicians and the audience. I only glimpse it occasionally live, and very rarely is it recorded in a way that maintains that feeling. It's kinda hard to explain.
The first recording that gave me that feeling was this one, probably the song that made me want to play in a rock band and learn guitar, so I could make moments like this:
The Song Remains the Same - Led Zeppelin

Solid sound. Something which envelops and temporarily transports (and also defines in a precursory way).
Small Faces
Easybeats
Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland
Mick Ronson
Blur at times
Neil Young at times
Radio Futura, most of the time
JAMC
Pixies
Stones in their three album run with Mick Taylor present for much of it
Isolated Beatles moments, nearly all being Lennon led
Steven Stills when on, and not flailing
The Clash
Amy Winehouse
CCR

The guitar sound on a lot of 60s and early 70s R&B. No matter what I start working on, before I put down my guitar, I always work on that a while.

I haven't heard of them, thanks for the heads up I'll check them out! As far as tributes go I saw Australian floyd at the fox a few years back and enjoyed it. I wanted to catch Brit floyd last time they were here but wasn't able to make it.

There was no full album in the world that could get me to fly to England to hear it played in it’s entirety with the costs associated except Hybrid Theory. After Chester’s death, it was probably the smartest whimsical decision I’ve ever made.

The Stones - I have liked most of the albums they've put out (except Undercover, Dirty Work, Satanic Majesties Request) but the Mick Taylor era is stellar. From the hard charging playing on Street Fighting man in '72 & '73 and the solo on Angie that makes you wanting more - hearing him live during that time is amazing.
The Terry Kath era of Chicago - First exposure to them was the album 17 in '84. When I found my mom's Chicago at Carnegie Hall album, I couldn't believe it was the same band even thought six of the members were the same. I loved the nuisances of Kath's solos and banter on stage - Lamm telling someone in the crowd to keep sitting there when they yelled for Make Me Smile.

Devin Townsend.
Dude is a hell of a guitarist and an amazing singer. I'm trying to limit myself to 3 versions of his upcoming album.

Dude blew me away seeing and hearing him for the first time at The Varsity last year. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

I’ve been on a Latin music swing lately and particularly Cuban music. Buena Vista Social Club was an amazing assortment of outstanding performers.

This too. I’ve always preferred female vocalists over male.
