This. Only country music these days I consider "real" is red dirt.

50s-70s were the golden age of country music. The songwriting was awesome and the later generations just can't compete.

There is a lot of great country music being written today. It's not being played on mainstream country radio stations though.

Tyler Childers, Jason Isbell, Kacey Musgraves, American Aquarium, Brandi Carlisle, Lily Hiatt, Sturgill Simpson just off the top of my head.

Watch the Ken Burns Country Music documentary. It’s just doing what it has since the beginning, evolving. Not well I’m my opinion, but certainly evolving.

actual country music has tradition. these pop losers in nashville are only played on mainstream country music because it's pop and it's a money grab.

What happened to country music is that most of the new artists today originally wanted to be pop stars but started with country since it was easier.

True country has shifted more towards what they call Americana.

My wife likes some of the pop country crap. There as a Keith Urban song

John Cougar, John Deere and John 3:16

Not sure that Aussie knows anything about those 3 things and of course he did not write it.

true country is true country. "americana" was a word coined to describe actual country music that wasn't of the pop variety. but it's time to take "country" back from the pop imposters.

To be fair, if I played country music I'd hide my face too.

The suits have Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Tyler Childers, Cody Jinks, Whitey Morgan, Colter Wall, Billy Strings, Whiskey Myers, etc. sitting on the sidelines while they push Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Kane Brown and Sam Hunt. It’s the stupidest thing ever.

Country has turned into rock sung with a southern drawl and accompanied by fiddles and steel slides.

Garth Brooks. He wasn't really that bad, but he started the trend of all show no substance.

Are you effing kidding me? Garth Brooks is a fantastic performer and songwriter...he's a storyteller, which makes people relate to his stuff so much.

I will say that in concert he's a bit corny and has the crowd sing too much, but you can't deny his talent.

All of this. Garth is not technically a country singer. He's more of a folksy, bluesy, pop star who was born and raised in the country. He is country, though and a really down to Earth individual. Most of his music definitely has substance and tells a story. His ballads are head and shoulders above most other country artists with only a few exceptions. Garth is NOT responsible for the bro-country movement of the past 10-15 years.

What happened is these singers and douchebags with no talent whatsoever. Country music is as big a joke as this bull shite pandemic that's going on.
