Amen brother....spot on.
Used to ride my bike the 1/2 mile to the banks of the Hooch as a youngun. Skied and tubed the lakes up and down the river every weekend that I wasn’t fishing with the old man.
Song resonates long and hard in this ol Georgia boy.

Most Country music ain't for me. Most of it is lost without any identity or soul. Just doesn't grab you like music should.
The amount of "good" artists are few and far between.

I saw Merle at Champions Square back in 2012 or 2013. A lifelong dream come true. Nashville can kiss my arse and go to hell, for all I care.
Put some twang in it!

Except Calling Baton Rouge !
The first time I saw Garth flying through the air, I told myself country music as I knew it was over !

I never understood this. How did he kill Country Music by being entertaining? Were his songs that dramatically different?

Looks like an audition for the village people.

No one sings about THEIR experience anymore. When Alan Jackson sang Chattahoochee, we bought into it
Same could be said of "Drive" .. who didnt feel like Mario Andretti after doing 5 mph while driving with dad

Ironic, considering the subject of this thread Peck's songs are cleary experiential in nature.

I'd actually dare to say that country music is at one of its best times in decades, at least in Nashville.
Tyler Childers
Sturgill Simpson
Margo Price
Colter Wall
Chris Stapleton - when he wants to be

I’d argue that it started in the 70s/80s at some point and Garth ran with it. I still blame him but he wasn’t the pioneer of pop country.

Hasn't "real" country turned to red dirt?
