Orville Peck's aesthetic is pretty gay because he's... well, gay. His music is actually very connected to vintage country/rockabilly. Much different than the pop with a steel guitar that shite you hear on the radio these days. He sounds like Roy Orbison.

What happened is these singers and douchebags with no talent whatsoever.
I am not a fan of today's country and don't even recognize most of it, more of a 90s 00s fan...but one thing I will say is that these people do have actual talent and can sing. Unlike the DJs posing as singers, the rappers, and many/most pop artists who can't sing a lick and use voiceover or autotune for most of their live shows. Country singers actually sing.

No. Not even close. Something about a "book" and its "cover."

The suits have Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Tyler Childers, Cody Jinks, Whitey Morgan, Colter Wall, Billy Strings, Whiskey Myers, etc. sitting on the sidelines while they push Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Kane Brown and Sam Hunt. It’s the stupidest thing ever.
fact. great country music is being made. it out sells the pop country shite. nashville powers that be that control radio can't control them from a creative direction so they blackball them from the mainstream nash xm clear channel stations

I saw Merle at Champions Square back in 2012 or 2013. A lifelong dream come true. Nashville can kiss my arse and go to hell, for all I care.
Really? Good for you. Didn't know he played here recently. Probably was a pretty dope show I bet.

Read the entire thread, a couple thoughts...
I checked out the Orville P. Some of the stuff is not bad. It leans very traditional.
Garth started the slide to what we have today.
Anybody notice when these new Country bands step on stage, there's not a Telecaster to bee seen for the most part. It can't be country without a Tele (or maybe a Strat).
Most of the music recommended so far I would categorize as Americana or Red Dirt. Check out Sirius/XM's Outlaw Country and thank me later.
Here's Dale Watson's Nashville Rash, with a little commentary...

Half of the shite coming out of Nashville these days is simply hip hop for people who don't want to listen to black people.

Anyone know the details on the Turnpike Troubadours? I know the lead singer was battling demons. Hope they return soon. GREAT band.

It all started with Garth Brooks...
I agree with this. I think Garth was great for the most part...but he was followed by a lot of untalented hacks trying to be a watered down version of him. Unfortunately, they found that they still sold plenty of records so then things started snowballing from there to the point where radio country turned into a formula.
Step 1, be attractive.
Next, reference cold beers, pickup trucks, and tailgates. All of this must occur while getting a 'little crazy' on either a Friday or Saturday night.
Refer to your lady as 'girl' 15 times during the song
Make thinly veiled references to banging said girl in aforementioned pickup truck. Possibly on the tailgate
Work Hank in there, even though he would be disgusted by your music
Fill in the gaps with some nonsensical BS that looks like poem written by a 6th grader who assignment was to describe what they think farm life is like.
You now are the proud owner of a hit country music single, congratulations.
That being said, as others have brought up in this thread, there's some fantastic country music being made today. You just gotta dig for it a bit.
