The first boy band.

She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah
She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah
She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah
You think you've lost your love
Well, I saw her yesterday-yi-yay
It's you she's thinking of
And she told me what to say-yi-yay
She says she loves you
And you know that can't be bad
Yes, she loves you

If that's all you think of The Beatles as, then you have a very poor idea of music in general.

Every one of them has more talent than most entire bands. So the songs are softball - so what?

I never "got" the Doors (although The End is pretty badass). Morrison was just a weird, weird dude. The band had talent, but right place, right time is my best explanation for it.

(ETA: Wow - second page and I'm like the 4th Doors vote - maybe there is something to this.)

Definitely Grateful Dead, even went to a couple concerts and hated it.

Boston
Foo Fighters
U2
Soundgarden

Love the Beatles and the Doors. Roadhouse Blues is badass.

Does anyone consider him a "great"? Serious question.

Almost put this but I have too much respect for Freddie Mercury as a performer. Killer Queen and the other British sounding shite is hot garbage, though.

Some of these I may like a song or two from, some I down right loathe... Though most, I understand why a lot of people like them... they are just not for me..

Led Zeppelin
The Doors
The Grateful Dead
Jefferson Airplane
Rush
Eric Clapton
Santana

The one I'll probably catch the most shite for, though I appreciate his talent...

Jimi Hendrix

The Beatles. I tried and tried to get into them because they're "the greatest," and never could. Their music always sounded very pedestrian to me.

I don't even know what to say. Pedestrian ?

Quite the opposite. I just form my own opinions, instead of letting people tell me, what they think is great.

How about this gem from the Beatles?

Desmond has a barrow in the marketplace
Molly is the singer in a band
Desmond says to Molly girl I like your face
And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand
Ob la di ob la da life goes on bra
La la how the life goes on
Ob la di ob la da life goes on bra
La la how the life goes on

Or this one?

He Bag production
He got walrus gumboat
He got Ono sideboard
He one spinal cracker
He got feet down below his knees
Hold you in his arms, yeah,
You can feel his disease
Come together, right now
Over me

Pure drivel

Yeah there was a thread about him not long ago and a lot of people were singing his praises. Technically he's good but he doesn't play with any emotion.

I think it's perfectly fine to respect a band as great artists but not really "get" them. I feel that way about the Stones. You can't deny their impact on rock music but I simply don't enjoy a lot of their music. I don't blame them; I blame me.

As for Fleetwood Mac, there's just not a lot there to "get". They were a pretty good band in the early days but I didn't really care for the Buckingham/Nicks incarnation of the band. Once those two joined, it seemed to be all about them.

The Grateful Dead

Coldplay (maybe not all-time great status, but I assume they're getting there)

Bob Dylan

Foreigner
