According to Nielsen SoundScan, it (Mandatory Fun) sold just over 104,700 copies in the week ending in July 20, making "Mandatory Fun" Yankovic's first No. 1 album.

A career in a genre that is barely given much respect, Al, an artist who has had hits in every decade since the 80s, finally has a #1 hit album in Mandatory Fun.

He made his break parodying Madonna and Michael Jackson and used the power of social media and the internet in an age where anyone with iMovie and a phone can put out a parody of a hit song.

Kudos to Al for sustained excellence, marketing savy and talent. Never stop being a weirdo.

Happy for him, been laughing at his stuff since "Eat It."

And UHF doesn't get the love it deserves.

Weird. Seems like his popularity would have climaxed during the "Eat It" years.

Drake has the most #1 rap/hip hop tracks ever. Fun fact.

He'd had a few good songs on Poodlehat and Straight Outta Lynwood, but this album is a cut above the rest. Easily the best album since Running With Scissors. Also, with album sales in the tank across the industry, it doesn't take a lot of sales to make something #1.

Is the fact that a Weird Al album in No. 1 a condemnation on the state of music in this country or a commendation to a man who has been making music for 30 years?

I just never got why someone would buy a Weird Al CD...it really is something you listen to once, smirk at a few lines, and then forget about. Not something you have in your truck and go "dude, you HAVE to listen to this Weird Al song"

Word Crimes might be his best song in a decade. Very clever parody.
