So, the first is Garth Brooks doing his rock persona. The next was some asshat insinuating the Eagles are the worst mistake in music history.

This is Chris Gaines. The Rock alter ego of Garth Brooks.

Spirit was offered the spot before Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock. Their record label didn't think that festival would amount to much. Instead they had the band do a radio promo tour in support of their single I Got A Line On You.

That gets my vote for the worst mistake in music history.

My wife thinks so; big Garth fan. I can understand Brooks wanting to branch out, he grew up listening to all types of music. I heard he was a huge KISS fan.

Garth's Chris Gaines thing only turned to shite bc the movie that was supposed to go with it was never released.

All of these are in the running.

Gary Cerrone joining Van Halen.
Jerry Lee Lewis marrying his 13 year old cousin.
The Traveling Wilburys second album.
Any vocal track with Yoko Ono on it.
Kurt Cobain marrying Courtney Love.

You're saying The Foo Fighters are the biggest mistake?

I guess they each hated each other but The Beatles and The Band breaking up.

Beatles more so. But there must have been some legit hate there. It spilled over even after John got shot.

Metallica fighting Napster

Pearl Jam fighting Ticketmaster.

Both bands pissed away a couple years of their prime with those fights and it really did nothing. Napster is gone but streaming isn’t. And Ticketmaster shuddered like a cow shaking off flies for a second. That’s it.

It can't be this because this thread will be how the vast majority of posters even know it happened.

Probably some choice made by Fogerty and/or CCR(I admit I don't know what happened). No way he should have been silent for so long.

This. Still think it would've been a flop but had at least made more sense. I didn't know exactly what happened until I heard him talking about on XM this past year.

Yes he is. It seems there are a few here that love to prove how cool they are by hating on the Foo. I get it if it's not their taste in music, but most of the guys doing the hating are just after cool points.

I would also suspect they have never seen Foo live. Those guys put on one hell of a show and are insanely talented. Taylor Hawkins especially. He is absolutely capable of stealing the show from behind the drums.

Metallica took a lot of shite for that but wasn't wrong. Napster had a business model based on pirating copywritten material. Metallica stood up but just looked un-cool doing it. Streaming didn't stop but these streaming services are having to license it and pay artists.

Pearl Jam and Vedder's crusade against TicketMaster was just beyond dumb. Like it or not, Ticketmaster identified a business need and provided a service. Pearl Jam could always have taken a lower cut of the guarantee but didn't want to do that...Instead it was Ticketmaster or the promoter thyat should take a haircut because Pearl Jam wanted to be a band for the people and keep prices low. Not only did Ticketmaster not go away, there was further consolidation in the industry between venues, ticketing, and promotion...and the susposedly cool and edgy bands and their managers are lying fricks.....they are the ones holding back tickets and putting shows on StubHub to pump their gross.

It led to a couple of amusing SNL skits at least. :)
