McCartney bought it all back a few years ago. He owns most, if not all, of their music now.
PM got the rights to the two songs on the first single. Sony Music owns almost everything else:

Didn’t the Beatles not have ownship of their own music? I’m pretty sure Michael Jackson owned a good bit of their Catalog if music. That has had to have cost them a fortune. I’m not sure how the deal went down and why they didn’t own it but if they made a decision to sell or a deal where they didn’t own it that has to have cost them hundreds of Millions.
Again, they were unknowns at the time. Signing with an experienced music publisher was the best move available to them. Their manager Brian Epstein might have gotten a somewhat better financial deal, but Dick James had lots of contacts in the music business which helped establish them in London.

I still say Oldham selling off the Stones was the biggest screw-up in music history, but this was probably the greatest Beatles fiasco:

Seltaeb

quote:

Directly prior to The Beatles' first American visit, Brian Epstein wanted someone to manage the escalating volume of merchandising requests that NEMS found itself unable to cope with, and asked his lawyer, David Jacobs, to oversee this task. Jacobs knew Nicky Byrne and asked him if he would be interested in taking over the merchandising subdivision from NEMS altogether, paying NEMS a commission. Byrne accepted the offer subject to a 90% rate, leaving only 10% for the Beatles and NEMS combined. Completely unaware of the potential market that existed, particularly in America, Epstein agreed to the deal, and subsequently lost The Beatles an estimated $100,000,000 in possible income.
According to legend Byrne, expecting to get a 10% commission, told Epstein, "90-10 is standard", and Epstein replied, "Well, 10% isn't much for us, but I guess we'll take it".

Michael McDonald with the Doobie Brothers was an absolute disaster. Worst thing that ever happened to the Doobies.

One of these doesn't belong in any kind of music studio.
