I've been on him a while now! I started shifting more bluegrass/folk with him, Justin Townes Earle, and a few more folky guys.

They're short a singer because he didn't have that high, lonesome sound that bluegrass music requires.

They were taking bluegrass music where it’s never been before, but they weren’t taking him with them.

Kelly Joe Phelps - the man is a virtuoso, on the slide guitar or finger picking it don't matter.

They were good too. Took 2nd place in the International Bluegrass Competition in Crockett, Texas. They broke up three days after they kicked that baw out though, he took the PA system with him. Grotesque.

Love some of the recommendations already listed. Let’s get the obvious out of the way:

Sturgill, Turnpike Troubadours, Cody Jinks, Tyler Childers, and John Moreland.

If you don’t know about these guys start there.

Justin Townes Earle is a legend
Devil Makes three is awesome as well.

Also check out Wrinkle Neck Mules, The Deslondes, and Joshua Hedley.

To be fair, there were only three bands in the competition and they could play faster than the other two, which secured them second place. Of course, had they been tested for performance enhancing drugs, cheap amphetamines would have been found in their system and they would have been disqualified.
