Traveling Wilburys - GOAT super group?

Bob Dylan
Tom Petty
George Harrison
Roy Orbison
Jeff Lynne (ELO)
Surprising how few people of heard of the band considering the members and how good their music is.
Are there any super groups that came close in either star power of members or quality of music by the super group?

Wilburys were good, but they put more effort into singing on each other's individual efforts than they did in making lasting music together.
The Highwaymen - Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson come close or may surpass in terms or star power (depends on if your tastes run to country or rock). They also had several songs (all covers) that made it into the collective musical consciousness - Highwayman, Desperados Waiting on a Train, The Last Cowboy Song.

Really good band, though.

Nah. Good, but Blind faith and Derek and the Dominoes were better.

Clapton and who?
Was Jeff Beck in Cream? I am attempting to discuss without cheating and going to google.

Cream also had Jack Bruce on bass and vocals, and Ginger Baker on drums. Great trio.

You're thinking of the Yardbirds. Jeff Beck replaced Clapton in the Yardbirds and then Jimmy Page joined a little while after that.
I would say Blind Faith was more of a supergroup than Cream.
Does Derek & the Dominoes really qualify as a supergroup? They were freaking awesome but I don't know about supergroup status.

Eric Clapton and Duane Allman. Check.

Except that Duane wasn't really a member of the band. He happened to play on the record because the Allman Bros. were recording in the room next door. But as far as I know he never toured with them and never was truly a member of the Dominoes.

If not considered a "member," then Bobby Whitlock and Dave Mason (in the early formation).

Some very good bands listed, but still don't see any that come close to the star power of a Beatle, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison

tough to imagine a better collection of talent. even if others may have had better songs.
I liked ASIA as well.

I understand it's easy to become "the other guy" in a lineup like that, but Jeff Lynne is one of the great rock singer/songwriter/arranger/producers ever. Even putting aside ELO and The Move, he pretty much resurrected Orbison and Harrison's careers and produced/co-wrote Tom Petty's biggest selling album in the late '80s.
That being said, the Wilburys had a couple of great songs and a lot of filler. Just my opinion, of course. GOAT on paper, hands down. But it sounds like they were mostly just having fun hanging out.
I'd go with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. They could have used a little more creativity with the name but they had a few great records. They're my choice more because of the underwhelming results from supergroups in general than CSNY's greatness.

he played a few concerts with them. He died not long before anything major could get planned. I thing Greg Allman mentions in his book both bands doing a tour

it wasn't a coincidence though. Same producer and Clapton sought Allman out.
