You can't possibly think that the Top 5 american bands all exist pre-1985
most people on this board seem to think that the only good music is from the 60s and 70s

First off, I think the UK list is debatable.

Would The Jimi Hendrix Experience be considered a band and is that American or British?

Yea Larry Little Feat( whoever the hell that is) tops the Eagles. What is it with this board and it's distinct for the Eagles?

UK
The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
Black Sabbath/Ozzy
Cream
Pink Floyd
Have a hard time not putting Radiohead on there. Zepplin is disqualified because they're a bunch of thieves. I'd put the Who, but I've never really cared for them.
US
Beach Boys
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
The Jimi Hendrix Experience
REM
Pixies

Jimi Hendrix Experience was one American and two Brits. They were even based out of London. If you want to include Hendrix you'll have to go with the Band of Gypsies, who were hardly as renowned as the Experience.

Beach Boys
Talking Heads
Pixies
Pavement
REM
That list is a little 80s heavy, but you know the UK list is 60s/70s heavy.
If you included solo artists, you would need to drop in Elvis and Michael Jackson, which would trump any solo artists from the UK.

I feel like Clapton should be on the UK side in some form. Cream alone would probably be worthy.

This is a very important point.
Americans love them some individualism, so the best solo artists are generally American.

We gotta pull in the solo artists otherwise, UK stacked, US fricked
