You can't possibly think that the Top 5 american bands all exist pre-1985

if we were listing my favorite 5, it would include Pearl Jam and Wilco if that makes you feel any better. I think most people are listing the 5 they feel were the most influential in this thread.
Where's your list?

Anyway, we´re on an LSU board, populated by many others from Louisiana, and nobody´s mentioned that lil ol´ band from Northern California, which created a pretty hefty catalogue of solid material based upon the Bayou.

There is no possible list of 5 which can go toe to toe with that list.
Come close, maybe.

It is of my opinion that the Beach Boys were the most important American band and the best the country could offer.

The Doors
The Velvet Underground
Nirvana

First off, I think the UK list is debatable.
Beatles, Stones and Zep I think are in. Last two spots can be debated.
Some people, especially if you look at polls of Brits themselves hold bands such as Oasis and Radiohead in higher regard than Americans probably do. Also, the Who have an argument over Queen or Pink Floyd as well.
As far as American bands go, the list totally depends on the criteria. I could make an argument against any one of those five bands on the OP list.
