I am more of a classic rock 70's guy (Rolling Stones) but I starting listening to Tool "Fear Inoculum" as it was released to Amazon streaming. Apparently Tool never released their music to streaming services previously so only the real fans had easy access to their music.

I think Fear Inocolum is a great album with some fantastic songs, melodies, rhythms etc.. I have read the thread associated with FI release and it was helpful and therefore I want to listen to more songs.

So I ask that the question to give me a crash course on the best work from Tool.:

What are the your two favorite Tool songs from each of the following albums:

1) Undertow
2) Enima
3) Lateralus
4) 10,000 Days
5) Fear Inoculum (Pnuema and 7empest for me)

Bonus - Is Opiate an "album"?

I’m kind of jealous that you get to experience the rest of Tool’s catalog for the first time.

I don’t recommend listening to bits and pieces of each of their albums. They are better to listen to all the way through IMO. I would start with Ænima and Lateralus (the albums). Then move on however you like.

If I had to pick 2 songs from each:

Opiate - Part of Me and Opiate
Undertow - Intolerance and Sober
Ænima - Push It and Third Eye
Lateralus - Parabola and Laterlus
10K Days - Jambi and Rosetta Stoned

Can’t pick with FI

And Opiate is an EP

Opiate - Jerk-Off and Hush
Undertow - Sober and Undertow
Aenima - 46&2 and H.
Lateralus - Lateralus and T&L or The Grudge. Depends on the day
10,000 Days - Rosetta Stoned and Jambi
FI - 7empest and Invincible

This too. If you want to really appreciate them listen to the whole album. Lateralus is one of my all-time favorite albums. Just so strong start to finish.

I figured this may have been the answer as most great bands have albums not songs. I may just start at the beginning and listen to each one all the way through as I will get the essence of them maturing into what is Fear Inoculum.

Also no doubt the next level is seeing them live.

1) Undertow

Prison Sex and Sober (which will be the "popular" choices), but the album is really solid, start to finish. It does not quite have the highs of later albums, but is really worth listening to, start to finish (as are all Tool albums). Don't sleep on Intolerance, Crawl Away, Swamp Song, really all of it.

2) Enima

It's Ænima.

My favorites are Eulogy and Ænima, but frankly, 46 and 2 is too close to be left out. Don't sleep in Stinkfist, H. or Hooker with a Penis. Fantastic album.

3) Lateralus

Probably the finest record (and certainly the finest "heavy" record) of the 21st Century.

Title track is probably the GOAT song of the 21st Century. Parabola and Schism are the next two, but don't sleep on The Grudge or Ticks and Leeches.

4) 10,000 Days

My favorite is Right in Two. Beyond that, The Pot, Rosetta Stoned, Vicarious and Jambi kind of swap in and out of that #2 spot. This is an album I took a long time to warm up to, but gets better every time.

5) Fear Inoculum

I'm going with Invincible still as my favorite. Most folks favor Pneuma as you did, but I'm taking to that one more slowly. I like Descending, 7empest, the title track and Pneuma all about equally and Culling Voices is almost there.

No - EP, but great nonetheless.

Not per your request but if I had to pick one Tool song that most completely embodies the spirit and sound of Tool it would be Ticks and Leeches.

I can’t really pick two from each album so there is one from all the albums.

I think Opiate is an album so I will include it.

Opiate- Cold and Ugly; Sweat
Undertow- Prison Sex; Bottom
Aenima- 46&2; Pushit
Lateralus- Parabola; Lateralus
10,000 Days- 10,000 Days; Right in Two
Fear Inoculum- Fear Inoculum, Invincible

Extremely hard to pick two on each. I feel bad leaving some out on each. I love them all.

frick you for this thread. I'll edit this post in 5 hours after the emotional warfare you're putting me through in having to pick favorites is over, hopefully with a verdict.

Opiate:

Sweat
Opiate

Undertow:

Sober

(Prison Sex honorable mention)

Ænema:

Forty Six & 2
Ænema

Lateralus:

I just can't do it Parabol+Parabola is a masterpiece, Ticks & Leeches is iconic, D-R-T is a fricking ride. I feel bad not mentioning the whole album.

10,000 Days:

I feel similar to how I feel about Lateralus with this but I think I could, at least for now, pick a solid 2 that stand out in Vicarious and The Pot. Although I feel like Rosetta Stoned could take Vicarious' place based on mood. Wings pt. 1 and 2 obviously deserve mention, then again the whole album does.

Fear Inoculum:

Pneuma
Fear Inoculum
(Culling Voices could sneak up based on mood)

God that was hard

ETA: I should also note that their cover of No Quarter is among my favorites period.
