For me Louisiana Rain is easily his best song. The hard part would be deciding 2 through 25. I would probably put Century City #2 and The Waiting #3 after that it is pretty much drawing straws.

I was never a huge fan. Saw him in Houston a couple of years ago and it really was one of my favorite concerts. The body of work is really impressive. Lots of great songs I’d forgotten not to mention that the heartbreakers are the shite. Really good band.
It’s really a shame when someone like Petty dies and the band is still there and all these great songs will rarely if ever be played in concert like they were again

That is really hard to answer. I love Don't Come Around Here No More, Breakdown, The Waiting, and even Stop Draggin' My Heart Around (Tom and Mike Campbell wrote it).
But since the question is my favorite, I think I have to pick You Got Lucky. Probably not his "best ever song", but man it means a lot to me.
When you stop and look at Tom's career, he has so many classic tracks.

gotta be Criminal Kind for me.
I like his more popular songs but the 5 or 6 "main" ones just get SO played out on radio I've gotten sick of them.

Petty, for me, was one of the rare artists who was able to sustain a very high level of work over the course of his entire career. Too many artists are unable to maintain the commitment to the craft, once the money and fame start rolling in. Petty was the exception to that rule. I found his later stuff to be every bit as good as his earlier stuff.
Hard to pick just one, but I would go with Wildflowers as my favorite.
