Reading his accomplishments as a composer, performer and producer. That guy may quietly be among the most creative people of the rock n roll era.

Plays every instrument under the sun.
And unlike a lot of other musicians, he plays them all really well.

No Todd Rundgren, probably no Trent Reznor, Al Jourgensen, etc.

Amazing talent. He produced and basically played all instruments and sang all vocals on Something/Anything. He also produced Bat Out of Hell, Skylarking (XTC), We're an American Band, and New York Dolls.

FWIW, he's supposed to be a total a-hole
I like (The) Nazz and some early stuff

Saw him at Gammage in Tempe. He warmed up Santana. I was so wanting to see Santana I didn't appreciate him as much then. He was pretty awesome.

The other (and perhaps more important) thing was his stepping into the fray to help raise Liv Tyler because Steven was so loaded up on drugs and too big of a narcissist to do it.

He agreed to produce Bat Out Of Hell to make fun of Bruce Springsteen.
