The Rascal King
Underrated unique band and sound in my view. I don’t think they get the credit they probably deserve for their originality in the 90s.
What’s the MB’s take?

Loved them at the time but like a lot of those ska infused bands of that era, don’t feel like they aged well

<---Unashamed Ska Nerd
I think that's because the third wave stuff just got so diluted by everyone else. It became a punching bag, and for some good reasons. The Bosstones and a few other bands were way ahead of the 3rd wave curve and were pumping out stuff in the mid to late 80s. Once it exploded into the mainstream, then it went to shite. The Bosstones became a symbol for the annoyingness that was the late 3rd wave sound. That said, the Bosstones survived the purge and are still around, so good on them.

'Knock on Wood' is one of those 90's tunes that randomly pops into my head sometimes. Guess it's stuck there for a reason.

That's the only song I have ever heard of theirs, and I love it.

I think they reached the level of popularity they deserved, no more, no less.
Not my thing, personally.

I like them
Don’t they have a member of the band that only dances on stage and that’s it?

Will always respect this band for the following -
Back in 1997 they played a show at the Howling Wolf in New Orleans. Tickets were not put on sale to the general public as it was put on by some music industry convention that was in town for their attendees.
Me and a group of friends tried to crash and get in, unsuccessfully. As we were milling around the back of the club a door opened and a gravelly voice emerged from the shadows. It was Dicky Barrett from the Bosstones -
“Hey kids, through here” as he held a door open backstage.
He promptly walked us through the backstage area...what a strange scene...The Cardigans were completing a photo shoot in the corner.
His last words to us - “ Go down the hall, 1st door on your left. Act like you own the place.”
We did and made it on to the show floor where we got to enjoy the show. They will always be cool in my book.

I liked a couple of their songs but their sound was limited and they had a more visual presence than musical.

I still like em well enough if I think of listening to them. I get in a ska mood from time to time, but kind of have to be in the mood.
If Question the Answers or Let's Face It came out today, I'd probably like it. The brain just tends to group their sound into a certain era because I heard them everywhere for a couple years and then not at all.
