People say this about Rush but I hate their sound, no matter how talented they are. Maybe I just hate Canadian bands. Can't think of a single artist from Canada that I've ever liked.

They're not my favorite band but I'd put Led Zeppelin's musicianship up there with any band that I can think of right now. Steely Dan doesn't really count, I guess.

I liked Skynyrd better than the eagles and I believe the music and songwriting is better. They could had more success as they died young and still had a lot of life left in them. The songs they had are more popular than ever and they achieved a lot of success in such a short period of time.

Before the crash, Ronnie wanted to collaborate with Merl Haggard as he was one of his favorite singers. I believe Skynyrd would have made the rounds to Nashville and would have killed it in country music. Some people don't know that Skynyrd had influenced Alabama and they formed as a band five years after.

The Band, ABB, and Synyrd are all on the same level to me. Just depends on my mood at the time on which one I prefer.

Other than the Hotel California album, The Eagles are pretty boring.

I really have zero dog in this fight and don’t know enough to speak upon the other bands included.

Was lucky enough to go to the Big Pink house once.

And I am convinced that Levon Helm is the coolest American ever. If I could have one drink w/ anyone (yes, dead or alive, regardless), it’s him.

Yup, Ronnie would have killed it being in that outlaw group with Waylon, Willie, and the boys.

I've tried. Even watched and enjoyed the documentary that was on Netflix about them.

The same goes for Zappa and The Band. I can appreciate that they're talented and respected as musicians. It's just not my kind of music, I guess.

The Band is truly a line in the sand for someone who has good taste in music. If you don’t “get” The Band there’s almost a certainty your musical taste is shite.
This. You could take The Band, place them in any decade, and they would thrive. What they were doing musically and sound wise spans so many genres and tastes.

And that is fine. It’s not for everybody, like most music. It doesn’t mean you have shite taste in music. Some folks are so pretentious about music it’s sad.
I can say that the guys in The Band were good musicians and not like the way they sound, not enjoy their music. It’s ok.
