They can’t. I pity those who missed the 80s, truly the apex of human civilization and the best time to have lived.

95% of your examples just explained why the 80’s were a terrible music decade.

I'm an '80's kid. Great decade to grow up in. But, Madonna, hair bands, and one-hit wonders don't make it the GOAT. I would go with the '70's as you had pretty much the whole spectrum of classic rock going on, soft or hard.

I'll agree it had the most distinct genres but not the best music. And I grew up in the 80s. But I prefer the 70s.

I'll just drop these names from the 60's. You decide.
- Rolling Stones
- The Beatles
- The Who
- Jimi Hendrix
- Eric Clapton, Cream, Yardbirds
- Traffic
- The Band
Now, to be sure, there was some good music made in the 80's, and the 70's for that matter. But the 1960's are and will be the greatest decade in rock-n-roll music.

The 80s were a great decade but the music was horribly cheesy. It makes for great nostalgia but there were much, much better decades musically.
