I like Def Leppard just fine. But based on your very insightful takes on many things, I am puzzled by your DL obsession.

1780's maybe when Mozart and Beethoven were living. Other than that, I would put the 1970's 1st and the 1960's 2nd, but both ahead of the 1980's.

Ya know, I never liked Def Leppard back in the 80s, really, pretty much hated them. Couldn't stand to hear them, their sound just grated on my last nerve for some reason. If they played on the radio, I would turn the volume all the way down. Nowadays I really like them, a lot, more than most things I listened to at that time.
It's kind of weird really.

I would argue it is the 70s and, even with disco, it's not even close. However the 80s get a lot of shite it deserves but also a lot of shite it doesn't. You could argue the 80s were the most important decade (in a negative way) in the history of music simply based on the fact that it was the last decade before Top 40 music became pop music. Top 40 was everything, country (Alabama, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, etc.), rock (Journey, U2, Guns "n'Roses, The Police, Van Halen, etc.) R&B (Stevie Wonder, Billy Ocean, Prince, Michael Jackson, etc.) basically anything that had a hook in it. Then it morphed into "pop" the most vapid, brain dead, unoriginal, boring, drech ever mass produced in a recording studio and all of a sudden all those other forms got banished from pop radio. Music hasn't been anywhere near the same in quality or variety ever since. The 80s weren't the best decade in music but they were the last good one.
