I might go 66-76 but 69-79 isn't bad. Disco was the downfall and music really hasn't found the way back since.

I grew up in the 70s and 80s. I love 80s music for the nostalgia and memories, but the 90s were my favorite decade for music.

The 70s and its not even close

When people post this, it's funny how they don't remember how bad the bad really was or how cheesy the cheese was. They only remember the good because it's what sticks around. I guess that's the same for any decade though.

Do you remember Marilyn Mcoo & Billy Davis Jr?

Hint, they had a No. 1 hit back in '77. Cheesy studio production with excessive strings and karaoke singing.

No other decade had the scope talent and variety of the 1980s

The 90's followed up with more variety than the 80's.

You had all of your 80's genres plus Grunge and an explosion in rap.

I think most people will pick when they were a teenager. Objectively, I'd put the 60's and 90's as the two strongest top to bottom musical decades.

How in THE HELL can you pump up the 80's and not mention PRINCE??? Good God dude. And for the downvoters coming my way, "whoever that dude is you like the best" will tell you he wasn't a pimple on Prince's arse in regards to talent if they ever jammed with him, or saw him live, which many of them did.

I'd argue the 70's, but the 80's had a lot of great music. I came of age in the 80's, so I'm probably a bit biased though.

It reflected in film too.

But, Madonna, hair bands, and one-hit wonders don't make it the GOAT.

I'll give you hair bands and one-hit wonders, but Madonna was an 80's icon, whether you liked her music or not. I was never a big fan, but have grown to appreciate her because my 13 year old daughter and her friends are obsessed with her.

Some of the best 80's artists actually started their careers in the late 70's. Talking Heads, The Cars, etc. Heck, Hall & Oates were making great records in the mid-70's. That's the problem with these decades discussions. So many good artists spanned over 2 decades, so which one do you put them in? And Madonna was still big into the mid 90's. Then you have Prince that cut his first record in the 70's, dominated the 80's, and was still crushing it in the 90's and 00's. How do assign him to one decade?

The punk/new wave scene of the late ‘70’s/ early ‘80’s definitely was fun to watch unfold with the Clash, Ramones, Devo, Talking Heads, REM and so many others. It is hard to draw a line and say all of these were good in ‘79 and sucked in ‘80. The variety of all of the music from Rick James to Motley Crue was great.

And much of the good stuff dates from '77.

They were an 80s band here, however.

Curious when you were born. I was born in 1979 and can claim 6 decades. But I don’t really think I can honestly say I lived through 6 decades of music.

ETA. 1965-1975 is my favorite 10 year stretch although I never lived it.

The answer to your question would most likely be the 1970's, and most of those acts you listed are why some would consider the 1980's a terrible decade for music.
