I honestly don't understand why you would compare these 2 bands though...

I may go DMB. As musicians. frickers are awesome live. I am not a huge fan of either. All I know of Steve miller are all of the songs that are on classic rock.
Steve Miller fans tell me if I am wrong and there are some great examples of their musicianship?

Dave more than likely has better musicians but Steve Miller makes better music imo.
Although its not like these two can really be compared.

Listen to it and see if we are wrong. In thirty years lets see who is right.

Steve Miller Band's stuff is just fun. You don't always have to dissect the talent of the musicians to decide which one puts out music you like better.

True. It is an apples to oranges comparison anyway.

You have to love it when someone touts a band, then says "check out their 'greatest hits' album"...

Talent and showmanship it's DMB and not even close.
Radio Playability is Steve Miller band.
I'll choose DMB time after time though.

It's rarely close around here.

Funny I know. But do you think in thirty years that DMB's greatest hits album will still be on the top 100 best seller list year after year?
IMHO its sort of a stupid argument anyways. I like a ton of bands more than either of these two and they havent even been on the radio.

nothing more needs to be said.

For most bands you have tout the greatest hits album. When comparing two random bands, it's not a problem.

I am going with Steve Miller Band. Their Greatest Hits album has been on the top selling list year after year. DMB sales do not compare and will not stand the test of time.
Sorry to bump a really old thread. I was looking for something else and came across this one.
Just to be clear, without that one greatest hits album, DMB would smoke SMB in record sales. DMB has put out 7 studio albums. All of them have gone platinum (5 of the seven multiple times, including 7x and 6x). SMB has had 4 platinum studio albums and none in 30 years (out of six tries).
The last five DMB albums peaked at #1 in the charts. SMB had none that high, with Joker peaking at #2.
SMB is a great band. They had a one really great decade run from the early 70's to the early 80's and have been living off the greatest hits album ever since. If DMB can have the longevity of SMB (which is not likely and should be praised), it wouldn't be a competition.
I understand this is an opinion thread, but the quoted post was misleading at best.
My choice, if not obvious, is DMB. Talented, versatile, unique, and a true live performance band at heart (proven by the fact that their first album was a live album, and they have produced 50 live albums in total)
