Interesting that there's only one "old" band included: Pearl Jam.

Best band names I've never heard before:

Mannequin Pussy
Couch Slut

X goes back to the '70s

And from the intro:
quote:

For decades, the most commercially viable (and even critically bolstered) rock was dominated by white dudes, which is troublesome considering how many of its pioneers, including the dearly departed, radically queer genius Little Richard, were not. And considering how many boomers put the genre on a pedestal while finding creatively bigoted ends for disco and rap, it wasn’t exactly sad to watch visionaries of other genres, particularly R&B and hip-hop, inarguably revolutionized the 2010s more than any guitar-bass-drums unit. It was great, actually — a relief. A reckoning.
Thanks for reminding me why I never read Spin

That’s a weird list that I don’t much agree with. Glad to see Dogleg get some love though. Their new album rocks and is one of my favorites of the year.

Why? Spin should be the one to shut up. There's absolutely nothing "troublesome" about white dudes playing rock and roll. It's virtue signalling nonsense to write that bullshite. They should talk about the music or stfu.

Spin Magazine went from the best music mag to complete and utter crap almost overnight back in the early 2000s. I wouldn't trust them with a list of Top 10 reasons not to eat a live hand grenade.

As expected clickbaity drivel by large.

Haim is good fine with that. Same with sheer mag. Hum at 50? Ok.

that dog. Ha.they weren't anything special back in the 90s. Might as well replace with gbv.

This list is a joke w/o {unless I missed it):

My morning jacket
Cage the elephant
The strokes
Tame impala
Parquet courts

Khruangbin's a better band than anyone on that list. Entire list is shite.

Rival Sons is not on the list. It's a farce.

shite, Crobot isn't on there either. Who are these idiots putting that list together?

Big fan of Charly Bliss so glad to see them so high on the list.

No Arctic Monkeys? And does MMJ not qualify as rock? Spoon? It's unclear where they draw the line between rock and something else.

This list is what happens when one person is allowed to listen to a shuffle “rock” playlist on Pandora and just write the names down as they come on.

I don’t care about this one critics list of shuffled Pandora songs....

I agree wholeheartedly, Kafka. The term "reckoning" is thrown around far too lightly, these days. I stopped reading Spin's list when the rap-rock outfit fronted by Ice-T popped-up.

So I actually listened through all of them. One thing I noticed the most was a lot, I mean a lot, of chick bands. Not saying it's bad but almost like they were picked on purpose to make sure they are reprsented.

Should be higher pick:
(48)Coricky - ok, I'm a little biased with that pick. Ian McKaye can do no wrong in his endeavors.

frick yeah they made the right pick:
(24) Low Cut Connie - I need to see them live

Hmmm, not bad pick:
(42)Foxing
(27) The Paranoid Style
(26) Neighborhood brats

If Ministry and Killing Joke had a baby:
(35) L.O.T.I.O.N. Multinational Corporation

Most interesting pick:
(43) Otoboke Beaver I went down the rabbit hole on them.

Best music just wish there wasn't singing:
(29) tricot - not a bad voice, great actually, I just don't know what she's singing.

Of course I like:
Body Count
Pearl Jam
X

While I agree in a general sense, this was possibly the worst time to ever post it.

Skeleton are excellent if you like that type of metal. They’re on the 20 Buck Spin label with a bunch of other great bands that could have made the list including Ossuarium, Tomb Mold, Cerebral Roy, Spirit Adrift, and Witch Vomit.
