The song starts out rather somber but eventually has a very upbeat mood to it once it gets past the intro

Joe Jackson's "Rant and Rave" is very upbeat with an excellent horn arrangement. The music alone will get you going.
But the lyrics are a very cynical commentary concerning Jackson's political views.

Believe me you'll find out that everything's rotten, from bottom to top, through and through. All gold is just glitter, all gains are ill-gotten, but now what the hell do we do?

Wow, 5 pages and no mention of
Cat's in the Cradle?

I guess nobody grew up in a single Dad household?

Thought about "Cats in the Cradle," but thought the mood of the music matched the content of the lyrics.

John Fogerty has said this song is about the "apocalyptic climate" of the times.

Candlebox - Far Behind

Don't know if it qualifies as upbeat, but def poppy with a depressing message.
