I recall when the Clash's "Train In Vain" was a hit, a girl deejay I knew at the AU campus radio station walked in to the control room while I was playing it and said "Oooh, I love that song, it's so upbeat and happy sounding!"

I'm like, uhhh...okay...

"Train in Vain" is an excellent example.

Watched one of your videos a few weeks ago. Very impressed. Solid, tight. Lot of energy. Impressed.

Also Costello's Allison, which sounds like a love song but is about hunting down and shooting the title character, who jilted the narrator. ("my aim is true")

Basically every song the Reel Big Fish ever wrote -- Sell Out, Beer, Don't Start a Band, Cheer Up.

Thanks, friend.

I look at those videos and think, "dammit, quit looking at the fricking frets!!"

I can relate. My paw-in-law has Alzheimers. He can tell you, in great detail, things that happened 70 years ago, but can't remember whether or not he had breakfast, even 5 minutes after he's just eaten. He has moments of total confusion, but may be very lucid a short while later.

Thanks for sharing!

Big hit when I was in High School. Upbeat musically, but lyrics illustrate a story of lost love leading to alcoholism.

"....drinks herself half-blind. She lost her youth, and she lost her Tony. Now she's lost her mind"

Have always thought this song was about unrequited love.

Passion Pit - Gossamer album sounds like a super fun indie album but lyrically it's nothing but depression and sadness.
