Every time I listen to "Sam Stone" by John Prine I think about a friend of mine who killed himself after coming back home from Iraq.

A friend of mine died in 10th grade while duck hunting in some bad weather. The blind collapsed and he drowned.
He was loud and opinionated, but damn sure a good friend to me,it was surprising to find out,how many others really didn't like him.
No song about him yet,but now that you have me thinking about it...

Nearly the whole album. "Reach Down" opening lines especially.

I know it's a hair band, but I lost a best friend in 1989 and the song "Don't Close Your Eyes" really hit home. I still tear up when I hear it to this day.
One of the best hunting, fishing, drinking and girl chasing fiends a guy could ask for!

The Long Road is a better example from Pearl Jam at least In terms of death

I don't think Off He Goes is about death. I think it's more about the struggle of fame, constant movement, and true relationships. I guess that could be losing a friend too

So Far Away is a great one but Fiction on the same album hits way closer to home. It has clips of the Rev singing and he wrote the song himself. It's very creepily almost like a farewell.
