Listening to Eat a Peach this afternoon! 'Blue Sky' was recorded while Duane was still alive on this song.

USA Today - lengthy write up.
Dickey and Jerry jam

An estimated crowd of 600,000 fans attended when the Allman Brothers Band, The Grateful Dead and The Band co-headlined the Summer Jam at Watkins Glen, New York, on July 28, 1973. Considered the largest crowd to date for a rock festival, the event drew more people than Woodstock did a few years earlier.

He was my gittar teacher even though we never met. Gonna have to pour a bourbon in his honor tonight.

Following the death of Jerry Garcia, Betts started opening “Blue Sky” with an homage to the Garcia-composed Grateful Dead song “Franklin’s Tower.”

Betts: “I guess from listening to The Dead every now and then I remembered the riff and it was a good way to set the tone for that song. The band, the drummers especially, tended to get too fast and kind of play too much like ‘Johnny B. Goode’ or something. And I was trying to get that real, like, loping feeling to it, so I started doing ‘Franklin’s Tower’ in front of it to kind of set the tone for it.

Underrated in the grand scheme of things. Those of us that appreciated him know he was top-tier. Dude was just cool.

This is the greatest version of my favourite Allman brothers song! IMO possibly the greatest guitarist ever!

RIP. The way his voice sounds on the 1st 2 verses of Ramblin' Man (as well as that fluid arse solo) haunt me every day.

Elizabeth Reed - phew

David Allan Coe and Dickey - Hank Williams Junior - Junior

In my opinion, ABB was one of the greatest bands ever. Dickey deserved a lot more credit for his guitar playing than he ever received!

RIP Dickey!

Only a handful of players on his level.
" Jessica" is my favorite instrumental ever.

He carried the band through some hard times after Duane and Oakley passed, and Gregg was caught up in addiction and fame.

Dickey just did outlaw shite and smoked 6-strings.

Great songwriter. Great guitarist. Great band. Great music.

Seemed like he brought the country flavor to the ABB magic.

Leaves behind a rich musical legacy. Where would music be without him?

I love fusion Allman Brothers. Those Betts-penned instrumentals just get into my bones.

May he Rest in Peace.
