Couldn’t agree more Jester with Porcupine Tree

My initial response to OP would be The Mars Volta.

Took another obvious choice here. No one said Radiohead ( Ok COP, KidA , Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief). 4 albums pick the direction

I’m tired of music that is 50-60 years old being brought up lol

The Bends > OK Computer > Kid A is pretty solid. Maybe not the greatest but a very influential run.

I'm about to light the Metallica fan fire but I'd much rather listen to Puppets/Justice/Black start to finish

Yeah I love the black album. KEA too. KEA through the black album would be up there at the top for a 5-album stretch for me too, but KEA and the black album would get blowback from one group or another. It stood out to me that Lightning through Justice was probably a 3-album stretch that almost all metal heads agree is great.

I've always regarded Metallica's first five records as the most solid string of albums ever released and a textbook example of artists evolving, to boot.

To know that Kill 'Em All got virtually no play on radio and was originally to be named "Metal Up Your arse," only for the black album to dominate rock radio and the Billboard album charts for thirty years is truly incredible.

Until Phil joined Pantera and they started ripping off Exhorder.

Let's be honest, when he joined they could just changed the band name and no one would have ever noticed
