In terms of quality of music, not necessarily commercial success, is this the greatest 3-album run for any band ever? It at least has to be up there in a top group that would change in ranking depending on individual taste in music.

To me, I love Metallica’s whole catalog. But these 3 albums I’ve always considered on another level, some of the best music ever made.

That’s certainly a really good stretch, but this is highly subjective. I think there are a lot of bands you could make a reasonable case for.

I’d lean toward Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, and Blonde on Blonde.

Built to Spill’s There’s Nothing Wrong With Love, Perfect From Now On, and Keep It Like a Secret might actually be my personal favorite.

The $5.98 E.P. – Garage Days Re-Revisited could go in there too.

It’s my favorite 3 album stretch. I’d also add to the conversation:

Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper’s
Music for the masses, violator, songs of faith and devotion
Leviathan, Blood Mountain, Crack the Skye

It certainly has a strong argument. However, as much as I love Ride, I would say it is clearly a step down from the latter 2.

I'm too lazy to look, but seems like at least a chance CCR wins this category?

RiP, Countdown to Extinction and Youthanasia?

Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave?

Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, 7th Son?

Dark Side of the Moon -- Wish You Were Here -- Animals (or alternatively add Meddle to the front)

Innervisions -- Fulfillingness' First Finale -- Songs in the Key of Life

Let it Bleed -- Sticky Fingers -- Exile on Main Street (or add Beggar's Banquet to the beginning, it's a tough call)

The Beatles is really hard to pick their best 3 in a row. Maybe Sgt Pepper -- Magical Mystery Tour -- White Album.

Stadium was a little watered down w/ the number of songs. If you take out the Dave experiment and put Frusciantes 3 with BSSM, Californication and By the Way that'd be pretty damn strong.

Zeppelin's first 4 albums have 2 3-album stretches better, just off the top of my head.

Sabbath - Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality

Maiden - Killers, The Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind

Priest - British Steel, Point of Entry, Screaming for Vengeance

Def Leppard's - High n' Dry, Pyromania, Hysteria (although to be fair, if we do this, I think I have to spot you the Black Album - and it just so goes, the boys from Sheffield are fans of Metallica - I barely registered who Metallica was before ...And Justice for All and Rick Allen was wearing a Metallica shirt in the UK video for Sugar in 1987.)
