Whitney - Southern Nights

Allen Toissant cover. Way different than the original... very melancholy.

That's How Strong My Love Is by Seven Mary Three. Better than Otis Redding's original version.

Glen Campbell on John Hartford's "Gentle On My Mind"

Great version here with Glen and Leon Russell in an unplugged style show. LINK

Check out his solo on it. Campbell just kept improving as a guitarist.

How in the hell does this thread go 4 pages and Mad World by Gary Jules isn’t even mentioned. One of the most haunting songs ever. Gary took a poppy Tears for Fears Song and turned into art.

That's sacrilege! But it is a great cover--makes me appreciate Otis more.

I give you Al Green's remake of the Bee Gees How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.

Not necessarily a remake, per se, but an amazing cover performed with the original artist....I mean this is blow your socks off shite if you're an MMJ fan:
Erykah Baduh with My Morning Jacket performing "Tyrone"

Others:
The White Stripes performing Son House's "Death Letter"
Guns N' Roses performing Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door"
Gary Jules performing Tears For Fears "Mad World"

As a 38 year old white kid that grew up in an upper middle class suburb of Birmingham, I of course loved 90's "west coast gangsta rap." The Chronic and Doggystyle were (and still are) in heavy rotation for me. With that said, this version of Gin and Juice by The Gourds is tha shiznit and I prefer it to Snoop's.
