Jones did have some positive things to say about the state of music today, despite gripes that most modern artists don't have enough musical knowledge to create decent work.

Paul was a better bessist than George was a guitarist

Considering Paul's lead playing on things like "Taxman", he might have been just as good on guitar too.

George couldn't improvise, and needed painstaking rehearsals to get solos down.

I read the whole interview and believe most of it. Not sure he "knows" who killed JFK tho.

I agree with you Kafka. I admire George’s experimentation with new techniques, and he’s a great guitarist, but I agree with what you said.

frick Quincy Jones. Of course Ringo isn’t some virtuoso jazz drummer, but what he did always fit in context of whatever the Beatles were doing musically. From as early as Please Please Me, they show their chops as musicians, and were writing complex chord structures and melodies/harmonies.

George Harrison wasn't even the best lead guitar player in the Beatles.

Maca was the best musician (guitar, bass, keys, drums) in the band, by a significant order of magnitude. And, they had 3 world class (pop) songwriters, although Harrison wasn't particularly prolific at any period of his career.

So, with all due respect to a true genius, Q, "You're full of shite, sir."

I've always thought of the Beatles as great recording artists rather than great "musicians," although Paul might qualify for both. They were about songwriting, chemistry and studio innovation. The records still sound amazing.

That interview is nuts. Quincy has some great points buried among the weirdness, but if he were my grandfather I wouldn't let him talk to reporters anymore.

The best quote from this article.......

He praised Bruno Mars, Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, among others.

Half of these so called musicians couldn't play a middle C for a million dollars. Quincy's cocaine habit has taken his mind.

I agree. The guy’s reputation precedes him, but he made himself look like a dumbfrick in this article.

Yeah ok. Paul is perhaps the best combination of musicianship and skillful songwriting in history.

He can play anything, has written countless hits, and is an ace performer. He is the definition of a modern day musician.

That’s not even to take away from the other guys who were all genius in their own right.

I just don’t understand how people can like music and not respect the Beatles.
