Just because Paul was not as good a bassist as James Jamerson, does not mean he was the 'worst' musician. I mean, we all would like to be as good as James Jamerson. Same with the rest. They were all good at what they did. Not the 'worst'.
Quincy is a brilliant musical mind, and he is an arrogant arse. He looks down on anyone not as good as him. Can't stand people like that. I have to agree with him on the modern music though. He has some good points there.

The comments are rooted in petty jealousy.
Bottom line, the Berklee graduate, Dizzy Gillespie Band Leader and Mercury Records Vice President probably has a different idea about what a good/great musician is than you do. He's worked with the best musicians to ever live.
Hahahaha, and what in the world would he be jealous about? He's done literally everything you can do in the music world.
More grammy nominations than anyone in history
28 grammys
Grammy Legend Award Winner
Produced the biggest album of all time
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Arranged songs for Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ray Charles all while in college.
Played in the backing band for Elvis.
Arranged and Composed for Sinatra
Recorded with Miles Davis
Legendary artist in his own right.
Numerous Movie Scores and Soundtracks
I have no doubt that he appreciates and respects the musical legacy The Beatles left. But with his pedigree, to him, they were amateur musicians technically

Paul McCartney isn't in the same league with a Chuck Rainey or Jamerson
You're correct! "Some people have no idea what they're talking about." Bass Player Magazine, and many others, disagree.

It's racist Quincy Jones critiquing The Beatles.
Let that sink in.
Let that sink in.

Simplistic vanilla pop nonsense

The Beatles were very good studio musicians. They stopped touring in 1966 because their concerts did not match the sounds on their albums imo
Some of the stuff they did starting with Sgt Pepper's was revolutionary for the day save for what Brian Wilson was doing with Pet Sounds

I love the Beatles, but I have no doubt that is his opinion and it's more correct than incorrect.
Great songwriters, not great instrumentalists.
Just like Neil Young. Great artist, not a great guitarist.

True. And a significant distinction.
But what is the definition of musician? Isn’t the goal of any professional muscian to sell music, either through albums or shows? Who did that better than the Beatles?

I would say the goals and motivations of all musicians are different. Not sure how many records they sold has anything to do with their technical abilities.
Hell, Brittany Spears has sold a ton of records.
