Predict the Dixie Chicks’ career trajectory without their political misstep

I’m not taking a position on what they said way back when, but it completely alienated most of their fanbase.
Take that unforced error out of the equation: Where do they end up all time in country music? They were huge at the height of their popularity, the songs were very catchy, Natalie Maines had a great voice, and they were all attractive.

One of the worst frick ups in country music history. Probably the worst.
Just took gas and a lighter to their careers. I bet they had some heated conversations behind the scenes. Natalie was one mouthy bitch.

It wasn't just the one misstep. After the initial uproar faded, they doubled down and said patriotism is stupid.
Now most country fans agree with their 2003-04 opinion of Bush, but they're the Chicks because Dixie Chicks is rayciss.
At this point I think they're going out of their way to alienate fans. There have always been artists like that for some reason.

Lady Antebellum didn’t do themselves any favors either.

That was beyond stupid to rebrand themselves Lady A. Hmmm…I wonder what the A stands for? It’s like shortening Dixie Beer to D Beer.

I think they would have stepped in it somewhere else. At some point the attitude toward Toby Keith would have come through and you'd end up with their hard core fans sticking by them but the general country music fan tuning them out.
Even if they had avoided all of that, I don't see them maintaining their position as chart toppers and multi award nominees with the influx of the bro-country attitude and songs. There for a while there was very little airplay for women, and what was there was being given to more pop oriented acts like Kelci Ballerini and Maren Morris. It was a struggle for established acts like Carrie Underwood.

The Dixies and L. Antebellum are both lost causes

Once she became fat and butch it would have been over for them no matter what.

And actually there was already a singer out there using Lady A. A black lady at that. They had to pay her off to steal her name. You can't make this stuff up.

Eh probably a tad more relevant than they are now but I don't think they'd retain that relevancy for much longer. Country in the 2000s wasn't as popular as it is now and unless you were an already established legend or just leaning hard into America frick yeah part of country then you weren't last long.
Funny enough their criticism of Bush was correct their problem wasn't just wrong era it was wrong genre as well. Country music was filled with songs that weren't just pro America but pro war on terror.
This was the same time when Green Day shot back into the mainstream with their take down of Bush and his wars. American Idiot was extremely successful and received massive amounts of praise

No, Karen Carpenter had a great voice.

They still wouldn’t have been that popular. Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, and all the Bro country artists that came shortly after them would have still massiveiy overshadowed them even if they hadn’t gotten political.
They were a popular act during the lowest popularity era of country.
Maines also got too fat to be a headline act.
