When I was 14 a friend and I went to see Eve 6 at house of blues during their 15 minutes of fame. We started talking to the openers when they were in the crowd. They brought us back stage to hang out and we met Eve 6 and hung out with them and their groupies and got to watch them play from the Upstairs VIP area and ended up leaving through the band exit with all of them where the fans were waiting after the show. I know they weren’t exactly the Beatles but given that we were just kids it was a really cool experience.

Fast forward a few years and some friends and I crashed the after party at Pres Hall’s 100th anniversary show at Carnegie Hall, which had an all star lineup of musicians supporting them. I cane out of my brown out trailing Ed Helms at the party asking for a picture. Tellingly annoyed, he told me he’d take a picture with me if I would stop following him around calling him Nard Dog like I apparently had been. We ended up in a limo with the band that night.

I'm always amazed at how many people with interesting backgrounds are on this site.

I've met more interesting people in the movie industry than music industry, but I'm sure I've filed away a few musical memories over time. One I remember distinctly is my high school band opening for Bobbie Brown's brother's band at a backyard party. I remember getting set up to play, seeing Bobbie Brown and Jani Lane waltz into the backyard, and nearly shite my pants. He seemed like a really nice, unassuming, quiet guy. My band played a few songs as they watched us perform horribly before the cops broke the party up over noise complaints.

Met Kevin Cronin of Reo Speedwagon at the HOB in NOLA after a concert. Totally conceited jerk. After talking shite about his wife all during the show, he turned his back on a group of fans backstage and ran off with two obvious skanky groupies (one under each arm).

America - Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell. They played at the Carolina Opry a couple of years ago. It was a makeup from a prior cancellation. Sunday afternoon - started at 6, played straight thru 2 hours. Mrs. ClusterCock and I decide to go to the Marriot Ocean front for a drink and lo and behold Gerry and Dewey walk in. They are staying at the Marriot. We sat and talked with them for an hour. Nice guys, very down to earth.

Cool stuff

So you hooked up with Donita Sparks? That would’ve been during her long black hair days.

She was rocking long black hair during the time I knew her … roughly 1994-2000. When I was in college, I ended up booking L7 at the Spanish Moon and we had a nice (and just friendly) reunion. Good times at that Lollapalooza and some random shows over the years.

Just learned Dee Snider now lives near Winston-Salem, NC. My friend was shocked to see Dee jump out of his Hummer downtown. Looked it up and he now lives here. Which seems totally random. So hopefully I’ll meet him!

Walked right by Billy Gibbons in the Marksville Walmart around 2012.

Was BIlly behind in the check out line at lowes in Houston one day. Lady working the register was frecking out. "my husband fricking loves" she kept whispering to him

I couldn't believe how small he had gotten. This only a few years ago

Years before that, Saw him another time at a friend's dad birthday party (that dad is very rich). He left his guitar that he used to play at the rodeo there on "accident" and said to not bother bringing it back to him. He was pretty cool and humored all my high school friends that are guitar nerds

Walked into a c store in Minnetonka one afternoon as Prince was walking out. He had a six pack in his hand and even though I knew better I had to at least tell him how much I enjoyed his music.

“Thanks man”. Got on his bike and headed off towards Paisley Park.

That sounds NOTHING like what Prince would have EVER done.

Walking by himself into a convenience store and buying BEER?? He was only known as an occasional wine drinker, plus he had people for that. This is a dude that would have his assistant call CELEBRITIES and say: "he wants to meet you sometime next week. Wait for another call."

To be fair he was also notoriously anti drug but died of an overdose. It's pretty well known that he got hooked on pain killers from a displaced hip operation, and wasn't a recreational drug user, however.

I'm not outright saying you're lying, but that sounds like a very suspicious interaction with him. Are you sure it wasn't an impersonator, or a dude that looked like Prince?

This doesn't really count because I didn't interact with him, but the most random famous musicians sighting in my life are as was 1999/2000ish. I was at a BP station in Chilton County, Alabama and Randy Owen of the group Alabama pulls in and gassed up a brand new VW Bug.

I did get to meet/talk to Mac McNally before a Jimmy Buffett show in Atlanta. Nadira Shakoor record an album of Buffett covers and an hour or so before the main show was performing some of them on a side stage being back s by a local Buffett cover band,
and various Coral Reefers taking the stage on different songs. Most everyone jumped on stage, did the song and then we right back to the dressing room. Mac stepped down off stage and spent 15-20 minutes talking to folks.

It wasn’t unusual to see Prince out around Chanhassen back then. This was right after he built P Park, which was at the time surrounded by corn fields and woods. In fact, I deer hunted about 300 yards directly behind the compound. At dusk you could see the neon peace sign on the building top. This was around 1987.

In addition, he would often open the place up to the public. If you drove by and the gates were open, the locals knew that meant he was having a what he called an “listening event” and you could go in.

It’s why he never moved to LA or NY. Folks around that area never bothered him.

Prince was by himself when he bought his prescription at the pharmacy right before he died.

Axl Rose: Played poker with him at the Palms Casino in Vegas not long after the Palms opened and was sorta the cool place to be. He was a very small guy, but the two security guys that stood behind him while he played were not. He was already playing when I sat down, and he left about 30 minutes later with about $300 in chips. I didn't watch him play long enough to figure out if he was good or not, but he was quiet and I don't recall him speaking at all. The best part was that I was so distracted by sitting next to him, that it took me about 3 rotations to figure out that Huck Seed (former World Series of Poker Champion) was sitting at the other end of the table.

James Brown: Played blackjack with him at the Sahara in the mid-90's. He was unmistakable, and he had 3 security guys with him. He was a complete zombie. Most of the time I couldn't even tell if he was awake, as his dark shades obscured his eyes.

Rob Zombie: Played blackjack with him at the Hard Rock, probably around 2010 or so. Also an unmistakable look and I was sitting right next to him. He was a nice guy and seemed to enjoy the banter of the table. I'm not sure that anyone else in the casino realized it was him. He had no security that I could see, and he too is a small guy.

Michael Jackson: This was in the late 90's and right after the Luxor had opened either the Titanic Exhibit or King Tut stuff (I don't remember which one). My flight got in early and I arrived at the casino at about 8:30am. As my cab is pulling up, there is a large entourage approaching the area for cabs/limo pick-up from the casino. My cabby stopped short, to let the large group go in front of us at the same time as the large group moved to go behind us, putting the large group about 10 feet from the door of the cab as I got out. I opened the door, got out, and was standing face to face with Michael Jackson. It was surreal. He had come to the casino in the morning to see the exhibit before the public was around and he was just leaving as I pulled in. I didn't have any real interaction with him though.

He was also known to do the door-to-door Jehovah's Witness knocking.

Would have been the first time I ever invited them in!

Met JoJo Herman of Widespread Panic at a bar in Memphis after a mud island show. Had a couple beers talking to him about the show/tour for a half hour or so. Ran into him again a few years later at the Carrabbas bar in the Atlanta airport. He sat next to me and we talked about the shows that were coming up that weekend over lunch and wine.
