so Heart was a band with dudes in it

both Fleetwood Mac and Heart were all-male bands that had women join before they found mainstream success.

as was Blondie

Blondie pretty much IS Debbie Harry.

Linda Rondstadt played with stone poneys.

Really dude? Stone Poneys disbanded in 1968 and starting reissuing albums with Linda Ronstadt's name separately (e.g. Linda Ronstadt, Stone Poneys and Friends, Vol. III, The Stone Poneys Featuring Linda Ronstadt) because her name was big. Stone Poneys were active for like 4 years and the Linda Ronstadt went on to have a decades-long career with over 20 albums released, tons of awards including Grammy, Emmy, Golden Globe, Tony, etc. awards, as a solo artist.

No Dale Bozzio no care.

Yoko Ono on the list!?! And ahead of Norah Jones?

Eva Cassidy (Songbird)

Ps. Etta James criminally underrated.

Pps. No Josh Stone either.

What became the Eagles were the backing band for Rondstadt for a tour.

fricking Against Me!

Also, the absence of Far by Regina Spektor is another major issue with their list. Also, Tidal is way too low.

quote:

Solange's A Seat at the Table was a gift during an epidemic season of police brutality, its sounds warmly embracing the ears as she spoke directly to black people in mourning. Each lyric was feathered delicately over modern New Orleans jazz compositions, alongside odes to funk, soul, R&B and hip-hop. It built a softness and sincerity that touched in areas that D'Angelo's Black Messiah and Kendrick's To Pimp A Butterfly couldn't get to (through no fault of their own). The album is also a testament to Solange's ear for arrangements and collaboration: Her choices — ranging from Questlove, Raphael Saadiq, Dev Hynes and Dirty Projectors' Dave Longstreth on the production side and Tweet, Kelela, Moses Sumney, Sampha and BJ The Chicago Kid on the album — make it both a seamless and soothing listen. By including interludes from her parents and Master P, she reflected honor and forced us to peep game. Each song exudes comfort, nuance and an affirmation, especially on "Cranes in the Sky," which deserves to be the new Black National Anthem. A Seat at the Table is a recent classic, but more importantly, it's also a solution. —Stasia Irons (KEXP)

Blake Babies

I love Blake Babies, but even a lot of my friends my age(mid-40's) have no clue who they are. And these are people that were big into REM, Lemonheads, etc. in the late 80's and early 90's. Juliana Hatfield has had an impressive career, and I saw Blake Babies on their last tour last year and she absolutely shreds the bass guitar.

After scrolling the list, a few things that jumped out at me:

1. No Natalie Merchant or 10,000 Maniacs?! That is blasphemy. Unless I scrolled past...

2. Iris DeMent is way, way too low.

3. Erykah Badu's Baduism not in the Top 10 is criminal. I'd even argue for it in the top 5.

4. For newer artists, seems St. Vincent should be somewhere in the list.

I find it's best never to wrestle a pig. You end up covered in muck, and the pig enjoys it. I think it's best to let very angry people be angry in their own safe space.

But this is literally the news dominating music critic twitter, and it would be silly to ignore it. Lists are fun, and I like deconstructing them.

"Rid of Me" by PJ Harvey is waaaaaaaay too fricking low. That album is intense. It's like watching a mental breakdown through a keyhole.

And Fiona Apple's second album, the one with the million word title, ought to be on the list. Along with Lily Allen's first record and "Version 2.0" by Garbage.

Because it's on an album by a woman that I think should be on a Top 150 list of albums by women.

Bold statement.

I will say they should be higher than 81 though.

the list sorta sucks. To me it is has way too much shitty pop and old stuff on it. How the frick is L7 not on that list?

No Adele in the top 20? That's odd.
