This song showed up in my YouTube feed today. Sometimes I wonder if technology can read your thoughts because after that anime debacle I was wondering if Sturgill could ever make another normal song. Here it is. Four flamed candle

I wish you had a normal take, because this one is bizarre

he may make some more standard outlaw country music but I wouldn’t get my hopes up. He hasn’t disappointed me yet so I’ll likely be fine with whatever direction he chooses to go next.

this is an overkill statement at this point but I don’t think that was a “debacle” at all. I’m confused as to what some were expecting. The guy said multiple times what he was doing and folks were nutting all over the idea.
If I wanted the same albums over and over I’d be a DMB fan.

One who calls the new album a debacle never understood Sturg all along...

Its always interesting to me when an artist evolves and people want them to be “normal.”

Your opinion is highly questionable if you don't like that new Sturgill Simpson album and video

That song came out right after High Top Mountain with another song called Hey Now. They were sold together as downloads called Bastard Children. They were recorded at the same time as High Top Mountain but didn’t make the cut.

Hey Now seems to have almost entirely disappeared from the internet. Wonder if these songs have ever been part of a setlist.

I posted this knowing it was old material just to mess with all the dwebes who feel so compelled to defend the “new Sturgill” who he would probably laugh at for defending him.

Older Sturgill stuff is great.
The new album is great.

The one or the other crowd can pound sand.

It sounds much better there than on the album. The album is just a mess of mixing and production. I look forward to a competent producer redoing the mix and master in 8 years.

Listen to an FM country station if you want "normal."

You are comparing Metamodern and High Top Mtn to FM country? I liked Sailor’s Guide. Just not the current incarnation and find it hilarious how much that opinion triggers the apologists who are too afraid to call crap “crap”.

I don't particularly care for what Ive heard off the new record... but I also wasn't a huge fan of Sailor's either, though I did enjoy seeing him on that tour in Milwaukee..

That said, I don't have a problem with him going in whatever direction he wants and don't necessarily need him to make another meta modern...
