I legitimately don't think its crap. I really, really like it. Its almost exactly the kind of weirdo stuff I expected. I was scared when I first heard the single 'sing along' released....but absorbing the record as a whole, I think its awesome.

And Ronin may be the coolest groove I've ever heard.

find it hilarious how much that opinion triggers the apologists who are too afraid to call crap “crap”.

Music is subjective. I don't care if other people think certain music is "crap" as you say it. My ears know what they like and it has nothing to do with what you or anyone else thinks.

Your opinion is highly questionable if you don't like that new Sturgill Simpson album and video

Why? Its not that good imo. Sturgil is good at outlaw country bc he sounds like Merle Haggard. Not everyone listens to SS interviews or knows what to expect when he releases a new album. The new album is decent but nothing I care to listen to again. Idk why anyone would think its crazy that people who enjoyed his previous albums would not like this one, as it is very different than anything he put out before.

I just got around to listening to the new album. I turned it off midway . I guess I’m too old to get this (mid 30’s). I love everything he’s done before. I get that Sturgil is super talented and creative, but wtf? Read a few of yalls reviews that said it gets better with another listen. I’ll try again, but damn. I fell in love with this guy because he was the new outlaw country, not because he was making anime movies or whatever the hell this is..had to listen to Childers purgatory to get right.

I have never heard that logic applied to any other music. If you did not like it the first time, why would you suddenly like it after listening again to what you did not like in the first place? Vs. all of the other Sturgill you liked wholeheartedly the first time you heard it!

He didn’t say he disliked it the first time. Some albums take a few listens to digest. My most favorite albums turned out this way.

That totally depends on the listener though. Some people want instant gratification or they lose interest. That’s fine. Others are willing to give an album a few listens before deciding. There is no perfect formula. To each his own.
