THE BALLAD OF DOOD & JUANITA
THE NEW CONCEPT ALBUM BY STURGILL SIMPSON
SAYS STURGILL OF THE PROJECT
“I JUST WANTED TO WRITE A STORY— NOT A COLLECTION OF SONGS THAT TELL A STORY, BUT AN ACTUAL STORY, FRONT TO BACK. [THIS ALBUM IS] A ROLLERCOASTER RIDE THROUGH ALL OF THE STYLES OF TRADITIONAL COUNTRY AND BLUEGRASS AND MOUNTAIN MUSIC THAT I LOVE, INCLUDING GOSPEL AND A CAPELLA. IT IS A SIMPLE TALE OF EITHER REDEMPTION OR REVENGE”
Track Listing:
1. Prologue
2. Ol’ Dood (part I)
3. One In the Saddle, One On the Ground
4. Shamrock
5. Played Out
6. Sam
7. Juanita (feat. Willie Nelson)
8. Go In Peace
9. Epilogue
10. Ol’ Dood (part II)
Available on Digital or CD on August 20th, on Vinyl December 3

I hope this one isn't an attempt to out cuck Isbell on the wokeness scale... seems like a competition has been building for a few years

I forgot how much Sturgill and Isbell trigger this board.

Don't remember Sturgill putting politics into his music. Where did that happen?
Is this his last album? I seem to remember him saying something recently that he may not only do just 5 albums.

It's a full album. He seems to be pretty happy doing the acoustic thing right now. Wouldn't be surprised to see more of this from him in the near future.

I have really only liked "Metamodern Sounds in Country Music." Not a fan of any of the other albums.

Willie had a feature I’m assuming this will be a bluegrass / Kentucky throwback of Red Headed Stranger.
Sturg is not political in his music at all lol.

Is this the Country Sturgill or the Tripping Sturgill?

I enjoyed both Sound & Fury and Cuttin’ Grass but glad he went this route for this album.

It's a great song. The lyrics could be whatever but the song is great.
