Thanks for this link. My old man never got over the divorce with my Mom. He would listen to cry in your beer songs ad nauseam for decades. Although I love those artists, hearing those old songs brings up bad memories. I gravitated to Outlaw Country, the music of some of the great pickers like Wariner and Skaggs, and I still love listening to the country that was popular during 80s-90s. The new Country Pop, Bro Country and Country Rap is terrible.

I typically disdain Country music, but that is mostly from some formative years in Natchitoches. I have found some red dirt, alt country bands that I like. The TPTs are fantastic...The stuff I hate is Nashville, (outside of Jason and the Scorchers) or any new country

Ricky Skaggs is really good and so is Carson Peters who Skaggs has mentored.

Same. From 86 when Randy Travis broke onto the scene all the way to the early '00's, that 15 year period was country's golden age.
Prime is my #1 preset on XM.

The king of Bluegrass.
And maybe the best overall musician to ever come through Nashville. Dude plays like 6 instruments proficiently.

Some good music, and I know he's probably the most popular celebrity on the channel, but I cannot listen to Mojo Nixon for long at a time. He just tries way too damn hard to be a wild and crazy guy.

An FYI for those who don't know: the OC channel is programmed by Steve "Little Steven" Van Zandt, who also programs Underground Garage

Correction to your thread, mainstream Nashville "country" is the worst- i.e., Walker Hayes, Florida-Georgia Line, Luke Bryan, etc. However, there's still some really, really, really good country out of Nashville (and Tennessee). I've been in plenty of bars (outside of Broadway) where the guys sound similar to Sturgill, Childers, etc. They, unfortunately, don't get the mainstream airplay.
Also, while not technically "country" music, Nashville's bluegrass is unparalleled.

The one artist that struck me as being very talented is Kelsea Ballerini.

Yeah crap like that is horrible, but its throughout NCM nowadays. Nothing even attempting something edgy. Sturgill is not exactly mainstream. Stapleton is pretty good though.
You won't find a Country guy today with Alan Jackson's voice or a good songwriter and singer like Mark Chesnutt

I enjoy it for the sole reason to mock it. I can only sit through a song or so. But it never disappoints.
Always on point with the formula.
Anybody good or who plays their own instrument is not on the radio.

Same here. Of course I also remember people complaining that 90s country was just pop music with a twang.

I don’t know if midland and Morgan wallen are considered Nashville country but I genuinely like them.

Well... yeah. He's Mojo Nixon. If you can't appreciate UFO's, Big Rigs, and Bar-B-Q, then the blood of a bald eagle does not run through your veins.

Mark Chestnutt was asked to change his sound to be more on the pop side. He refused and said I'm not changing. This was in the late 90s and not long after disappeared like many traditional or solo country artists from the 90s.
I said before but the Bakersfielfd sound was very unique and to my opinion is the best country sound. You have the sound of old country music that Nashville rejected fused with rock music that gave it an edgy sound. I believe that it influenced Gram Parsons and which gave way to southern rock of the 70s. The Beatles were big fans of Buck owens and you can hear some of it in West Coast bands such as the Eagles and CCR.

I’m all Red Dirt Country right now too with a little Otis Redding mixed in.
